It's just personal taste. My rims aren't black, but I've seen some on our cars that look great (depending on the car color). Since I was little, my favorite colors were black and dark gray Maybe I just like colors that don't stand out. So IF I ever decide to buy rims, and loose out on my free lifetime replacements on the OEM tires, you've guessed it. Black or dark gray!

If you think black is played out then go for neon green! But black on black is always sexy

Love black wheels, had them on most every car I've owned that was worth putting wheels on. Changed it up a bit on my sterling silver brz, anthracite this time.

This thread is full of so much LOL

Even the serious answers sound like interracial innuendos.

I have a serious question though. there seems to be a moderate level of distaste for black rims in this thread and I read played out atleast several times....So I'm left to assume the Chrome wheels are not yet played out somehow???

Honestly with the QTY and diversity of wheel finishes and colors available that's like asking what is with blue trucks...

or white sedans...

I had to peek in here to see what kind of intellect was(n't) being used....I'll tell you what this forum never disappoints.

I've been a fan of black rims since whenever. Used to run blacks with trim rings back in the steel wheel days. Thinking about having the centres on the HASEMIs on the Silvia done in powdercoat black (they're three-piece)

It's kind of laughable that there are cars here with blue, red, and pink wheels yet there's a thread entitled "What is with black wheels?"

Perfect example to prove my point. The black wheels are completely invisible. All you actually see are the brake discs and the calipers.

Some people aren't buying wheels for looks but for functional reasons like weight reduction, width, offset, and strength. That would be the main criteria I look at when getting wheels. If you can't even see the design and it hides brake dust those are plusses for me.

Not to mention black goes great with orange.
