You share my thoughts. I have decided not to go FI and just do a tune.

Really? You can't wait for a dyno? Or a more detailed review? Or even just be okay with the fact that other people don't like the same things you like? Your just going to continue to be a huge douche bag?

Yeah don't worry. I flashed my car back to stock and working to readjust the tune file I had for the TRD.

The intake air flow was designed to run with the air scoop, so unfortunately yes, you will need to put it back in. I didn't remove mine when I had the greddy on

Yes, need to put the snorkel back on. Unlike any other aftermarket CAI, this one utilizes the stock snorkel's Venturi tube which keeps air pressure predictably constant and also doesn't allow for heat soak.

FR-S Matt is the coolest/smartest guy ever. I heard that he even plays golf with the Dalai Lama, in his spare time of course. When he isn't leaving his Confucius worthy quotes and information on here.

I am just saying.

Have you looked at the dyno graph on perrin's site of their intake? When you take into account the power lost down low, it makes next to nothing. You are paying $300 for the sound, maybe some response, and to be able to say "I have a TRUE cold air intake!" Which you do. Often.

The TRD unit will likely do the same thing as the perrin or FA20 (i.e very little). And it IS more expensive. But you don't have to worry about taking it off when going to the dealership. You don't have to pull the bumper to service it. And the cops can't impound your car for having it under your hood (which is a real threat in many states). Many people think the costs are worth the benefits in this case. And to be clear, I don't even own one of these things. I just can't comprehend what would make a person be so vocal about not liking it... in every thread.... all the time...

In terms of intake temps, the perrin unit takes air from the same location as stock, which is the same location the TRD unit gets it from. I am sure the intake temps will be similar for all systems in question. At the very least the intake temperatures will be as good as stock. This is more than exceptional, in my mind, as the stock system seems to be very well designed as all these "cold air intakes" are making next to no improvement.

I am not really sure why you think the box will be heat soaked. It is plastic, and it is in the engine bay. But so is the silicone tube on the perrin intake and the metal tube on the fa20. I suppose the box has more surface area, but I'm going to let the data come out before I make any jumps there. I would guess the metal piping would be more prone to heat soak as it is a better conductor.

The OEM box is already a true cold air intake.
It doesn't matter where air is filter, it's where it's sucked that make it cold or not.

I think MatFRS think about the air flow through intake like that:
when suck by the snorkel the air stop in that OEM box chill out a bit with a beer to get hotter and then say let's go to the IM for a dance if we are crazy for a hot after party will go in the gaz chamber and then run out through the exhaust. LOL !!!

I hope someone does post dyno results. I imagine there will be some slight benefit to having that larger surface area across the high flow filter. I think it looks pretty good in the engine bay too. $365 shipped doesn't break the bank imo.

We all love the car, we all have different opinions about what we want on our car. We don't need to go into every thread and make it about ourselves and our products. Give your opinion, see what others say, then have a good conversation. Don't flame every thread about this shit. It gets annoying when people are trying to look for results but they have to comb through 3 pages of this crap. If you don't like the intake, fine. Have yours and let people enjoy theirs.
