My 2010 Altima Coupe with DI doesn't make those noises. Just because it's DI doesn't mean it should make noises.

But I agree with you, some people keep on using the "lemon law" term they probably don't even understand the details of the lemon law.

Every car is different. Same goes for the DI designs.

My wife's 2012 GMC Terrain also has Direct Injection. No cricket-like noises, even with the hood open.

I dont want to lemon law it I just want it to work as intended. Chirps is under warranty therefore they admit it shouldn't be there.

Again, Im just worried a PERM fix won't ever come avail.

Direct injection will make noises, but this isn't a noise that was intended, as has been admitted by Subaru and Toyota (Note the TSB aka admission of guilt). I've had a couple nissans, I know what OK ticks and knocks sound like.

To me, its not acceptable and although you could probly never use it as the primary reasoning in a lemon case, I'm already using it as leverage in my own repurchase case. I had some more serious engine issues, but honestly I have to agree this is not acceptable in a new car.

I get the feeling a lot of people here just had shitball 80's/90's sports cars that made tons of noise so it doesn't bother them when this car makes a small noise. I can see where they are coming from, but in the end the "new car" expectations I have outweigh the nostalgia of having "acceptable engine noise".

funny, I was thinking the same. 5 AutoX's and I haven't heard the crickets since 5k miles. I'm at 9.5k now. Might just be the weather, but I'm in San Diego...it's not that cold.

I've been to San Diego. Absolutely a beautiful city. I'd love to drive there!

There are a lot of options for dealing with the chirp if it bugs you that badly (it bugged me) - something you can do until they (hopefully) come out with a fix, although most likely they won't. Most likely we'll all sell our cars one day with the chirp still in effect...sucks, but that's probably the reality.

Anyway, back to the "fix" - find some non-ethanol gas in your area (http://pure-gas.org/). Go fill up there, so long as it's premium octane. Within a few miles, your chirping will be gone. Now, go fill up at that same station every time if possible, OR every 2-3 tanks. For me, it seems like it takes a few tanks of gas for the chirping to come back, so if I just fill up with non-ethanol gas every 3rd tank, I never get to a point where chirping returns.

*breaking news*

Someone just purchased an FR-S in Houston today.

In the words of that guy from The Princess Bride, "Inconceivable".

Umm yeahh this chirping has to go, it sounds like my engine is made out of a tin can. I have an AEM intake installed. Will I need to throw the OEM box back on to get this fixed at the dealer? I'd rather not, but I know some dealers can be really stupid when it comes to aftermarket parts.
