I have my 99 m3 up for sale right now just so I can buy a BRZ.
(75k miles, new suspension, etc, etc....I'll post a FS soon on this forum.) It's a great handling car. I unfortunately got it with the dove grey interior, which I cannot stand. There really isn't anything that makes me hate the car. It handles well, looks great, fits all my stuff/kid/etc. I just can't fall in love with it. It's missing a certain something, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Hopefully someone else can fall in love with it. (relevant car history: 04 sti, 94 miata) |

I'd say wait it out for the twins. I've had 2 325s and my mother had leased m3s from 95-07. She graduated to the 650 in 07. The beemers are fun when you lease. I owned mine and they were bigger money pits than my house! My brz gave me heart ache when in was in repair the first month but I don't regret it at all. As much as I love the sound of my moms 8 cylinder beemer, the smiles we share when I let her drive my brz are way better!

I don't think you'd regret buying an E36M3, they are great cars for both the track and the street and WAY more practical than a BRZ. They were on my shopping list but I ended up with an E46 instead.
I don't get the hate for E46, it's a fantastic car, handled like it was on rails and screamed like a banshee all the way to 8k rpm. The S54 is probably the best straight 6 BMW ever made (toss up with the S38). The steering feel on that car was even better than my FR-S. Took mine to the auto-x several times and it was a very fun car. I still get sad when I remember the new owner driving her away, I'll own another one someday. Maintenance was a bitch though. Inspection 2 is not your friend.
