I also had this noise and was following the thread hoping for a solution. Then I had my roll bar installed and the sound is gone. Must be that it's not flexing as much now. Just thought I'd chime in, maybe others will notice this also if they install bracing like a rear strut bar?

I'll try the lube trick if the noise does return, but seems to be good for now

While I still have a few other noises to fix, the quick and easy here got rid of most of the noise I was dealing with.

The proper way to fix this is to install grease fittings into those two panels. That way grease can be added at regular maintenance intervals.

I tried white lithium grease since I figured that it'd be longer lasting. I have a 30 mile drive to do soon. I'll report back ASAP.

That's very interesting and makes sense also.

Nice!!!
After I got rid of the popping noise, I noticed the "other noise" #5 I posted in my first post.

-- 5 -- The rattling noise caused by the white plastic clips under the foam layer below the trunk liner. LINK

I played around with the foam layer once (push it up, down, left, right, and etc.) and the noise was gone.

Took mine into the dealer to get it fixed.

They told me SOA is instructing dealers to use lubricant to fix this issue.

I'm a little concerned that this is a patch and not a real fix; but we'll see how it goes.

I agree. If it lasts for the life of the car, then it's perfectly fine. But if the dealer needs to be lubing it every so often, then it's definitely not a "real" fix. Maybe SOA is somewhat confident that this patch fix would work for a long enough time, which is a good news in a way.

White lithium grease did the trick and should last for some time.

Nice!!! I'll try that the next time if my car starts to make the noise again. Did you use the spray type? If not the spray type, how did you apply it?

I used the spray type that has a straw attachment. I just bought a canister of it by Liquid Wrench at the local Harbor Freight. I'm pretty sure the amount I sprayed in there was overkill. Haha. The car will need to air out.

Wow. Who would have thought it: two squirts with white lithium grease and a good wipe down and suddenly I don't have a single complaint. Life is good!

Nice. 2 successful people with White Lithium Grease. I updated my first post to add White Lithium Grease as a quick fix in addition to WD-40.

Maybe it's durable enough to last between oil changes. And they could add 'lube the rear deck' instructions to the walkthrough they do for regular service.

Went to pick my car up after the dealer's fix and on the test drive the noise was still very much so there.

They kept the car and will be center punching a few welds.
