Just took it for a ride. I love the sound and it seems as if there's better throttle response. Only thing was that when I started the install my gas was at just under a quarter, when I was done and turned on the car it was asking for gas lol

Is anyone else worried about the wire for the MAF being awfully close to the belt?
To validate this post as being worthy in a feedback thread I will say this: I was just doing my install and I think the MAF wire is awfully close to the belt. There.

I was able to cut some of the electrical tape with the original clip on it, and I pretty much slid the clip further down towards the engine and just placed the clip back in the hole. Hmmm, I hope this helps but I also worried at first :/

No that helps a LOT. Sorry I was probably just really grumpy about it because I had such a pain installing it due to limited tools/light at the moment. Things I can say about this intake/airaid/AJ USA so far... 1. I really liked my experience with AJ USA, Airaid is lucky to have a company such as this selling their products. It definitely helps for airaid's image. 2. The intake seems very well built and quite thought out. Great engineering by airaid. I've never had an intake in my own car before but did installs for friends many times and I've never seen an intake that fits quite as well as this one. 3. With number 2 out of the way, I must stress that even if you aren't new to intakes I'd take a good look at the instructions. I was caught off guard by the small amount of OEM hardware that gets reused by the airaid intake. To me this is a good sign, shows they didn't just compromise and stick with OEM bolt sizes to make a cheaper intake. 4. Didn't get much of a chance to try it out, just a compulsory "new mod" jaunt. I didn't notice much of a difference but tomorrow's 16 mile drive to and from work should give me a better idea of how I like it. 5. The $50 rebate requires you to mail in both UPC codes...Reasonable....then Airaid goes ahead and offers a free gift (mystery to you non-buyers!!) which sounds great till you realize the gift also requires UPC labels....maybe I can just send them both in together? 6. If you have any back pains either take it slow or lift the car a bit if you can do it safely. Boy I'm gonna sleep good tonight. That low engine is great for performance but sure is a pain in my back now. Here's a terrible picture just to prove I got 'er done! Ziptie was cut since then.

I agree, mine was actually hitting the belt when I turned the car on. I zipped tight it. It doesn't seem to be as close anymore. Definitely sounded like crickets at first, then I noticed the wire. When I moved it the noise stopped. But that's for another thread, as a potential reason.

so...
half way through my install and it appears the PCV fitting (the 90° plastic elbow that is barbed on one end and threaded on the other) that I received is far to large for the threaded opening on the intake tube... Not sure if this is as simple as someone included the wrong fitting or etc. Really sucks because now I have to take everything out, put the stock parts back in and drive to a hardware store to try and match the intake pipe thread up to a fitting... Has anyone else had this issue? |

I came home from work and as I was cooking dinner the FedEx guy dropped off this little guy a day early:
![]() So I ate dinner real quick and ran outside to install it. The install started at 7:43pm and I was done at 8:52pm. I wasn't in a rush. ![]() ![]() I tried to record a video using my GoPro, but its dark and you couldnt see anything. I also lost the solid back cover, so all you hear is wind noise. The install was very straight forward, and the instructions were great. The sound is very nice too. Its nice and throaty at WOT but silent when cruising. Throttle response is slightly improved as well. I only had two issues. 1 - It took me a minute to realize that you have to remove the rubber grommet from the firewall if you want to install the replacement plug. 2 - I lost one of the tiny screws and a washer that hold the top plate on. I couldn't find it anywhere.

Gentlemen –
We have been made aware of an issue that *Some* Intake tubes have too small of a hole for the supplied Barb fitting. Now this is clearly not all Intake tubes, as seen by all the great feedback and installed pictures on the forum. However if you are experiencing this issue with your Intake tube, please contact us direct for the resolution @ 1-800-498-6951. I also wanted to address the situation where the MAF wiring harness is getting very close to the fan. I will have an updated set up instructions I will post that has the fix for that as well. Remove the tape on the clip and move the clip 1.25” toward the firewall. The tape marks the original location of the clip. ![]() Thanks, David

![]() 1) AJUSA was great to deal with, reading through their pre-order thread is what leaned me toward purchasing preorder version as they seemed to answer questions quickly (well as quickly as you can with the vendor rules). 2) Install was pretty quick, I think there was a typo on one of the bolt sizes but I forgot to right it down (I was in a rush) and applying a little common sense makes it a non issue (i.e. grab another socket). No issues 3) again being in a hurry I didn't take out the sound tube or the air tube, I'll do these both later on if I remember. 4) Quality product, I'll comeback in after a week of driving and tell you if anything has changed

![]() Installed Quick review: The performance is great, the Virtual Dyno software that we ran said the horsepower gain was about 8hp. The computer said we went from 167rwhp to 175rwhp. More than I expected but it's a virtual dyno so the numbers can't be relied upon too heavily. It looks and sounds great as well, once it was installed I love the low end growl. I left the sound tube, may remove it later but for now it will stay. The install however...is where my problems lie. The directions could use a bit more detail, we had no idea which parts we had to use from the original intake and which ones were new. Also we has a little trouble with the fitment on my car (However the fitment on Chris's car was super easy for some reason.) My biggest suggestion...BIGGER HOSECLAMPS!!! One size larger hoseclamps would make this install A TON easier. Other than that, no complaints so far!

Mines been installed a few days now, looks like yours! I will say, I know people were asking about sound.
You basically have 4 options each with different sound levels in the cockpit. 1. Roll top off of box for loudest sound, but be aware that your sucking all the engine bay air in, but basically uninhibited air flow. 2. Use the lid without the rubber gasket, makes the lid surface a resonating surface, but is dampened some due to snorkel presence. 3. Use the insulated lid, and remove the snorkel in front of the airbox; increased flow, airbox resonated sound is not as loud, but a clean growl. 4. Use the un-insulated lid, remove the snorkel; increased flow, makes the lid surface a resonating surface, so the growl is a deeper tone, but almost as loud as top off. My personal preference is option 4. I agree hoseclamps being maybe 1/8-1/4 inch longer would have been nice, but as they are - clean. I can't comment on the directions, never opened them. |

Looking at the pics I realized us BRZ/FRS owners are pretty anal. Check out the consistency in the way the pairs of hose clamps are installed.
I undid my ziptie and used the stock clip as plxdjake89 suggested. Still can't say I notice any sort of power difference but the sound is nice. It's probably in my head but I thought I noticed some lag from the throttle, wasn't sure if I just messed up the install but everything looks straight. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I posted up a DIY install thread and hit on removing the snorkel without taking off the entire front fender for those who are interested.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15376 As for the intake I only got to take it for a quick spin but loved it. Nice loud growl when you get on the throttle. The install was painless, great instructions, and the quality of the product is fantastic. Very glad I jumped in on the pre-order.
