Frustrated, pissed-off, tired of waiting for an FR-S
When the rumors started in 2009 I decided to wait for this car, bought a dam new Yaris to hold me over as I needed a new car at the time.
I've been calling all 5 dealers within a 50 mile radius since June. Same story we only get a couple a month. I'll take anything but an auto or Firestorm (the bright red pull me over color.) When you work 70 hrs a week you don't have time to camp out at the dealer or drive to friggin Maine. Now the dealers are basically saying to just buy a Tc as the 2013 MY is basically sold out, none of them around here expect more than 2 per month. Basically been waiting for 4 years for this car and it materializes to be a marketing ploy to generate "enthusiam" for the Scion brand, get people in the dealer, but not sell you one for MSRP. Switch and bait you to a tC. Most of the cars being sold at this point are going to "investors" who turn them around for MSRP+$4k. A Miata looks better and better by the day, but god I hate rag-tops. It just plain sucks that the dealers in your area won't sell for MSRP. All I can say is that given a little bit of time, the excitement will die down and they'll have them in-stock and ready to go like any other car.

Meh, what's one more year? I've always planned on 18 months after release.

Or even BRZ. If some Scion dealers are asking +$4k of MSRP, then it's worth looking into BRZ imo

Actually, there's at least four cars to look for, test drive and think about if you are sick of waiting, and they are all within 3-5 grand of one another.
In order of similarity to the FR-S and closeness of cost: 1. BRZ -- obvious 2nd choice 2. Miata -- obvious 3rd choice 3. Genesis 2.0T -- reasonable 4th choice 4. 370Z (catch: Might have to try out low mileage 2010 or end of year 2011 to get a good deal) -- but very reasonable 5th choice. Actually, a 2012 is even do-able -- they just had a refresh, so the price might have come down on the pre-facelift models. Worth considering if you have 25-29K to spend. Anyway, I'd take a day or two, and do some test driving. You may come away deciding on a different car... |

If your willing to look far. My salesguy Carlos at Findlay Toyota seems to have an endless supply of Frs. Let him know I sent you and he will probably get you one asap. The dealership is in Vegas and he did recently get a shipment in.

I'm thinking about jumping ship to an FRS because my BRZ is taking forever then I realize if I waited this long I can wait a bit longer more. It's not like my life is centered upon a materialistic item.

I'm in south Texas right now and the closest to seeing an FR-S is a 6 week wait within 200 miles of here in Corpus. |

Local Dealer isn't accepting orders, he says in good conscience that he can't commit that Scion will fill all the orders by the end of the model year.
I did check cars.com on Friday and called several dealers within 100 miles that had cars listed on that website. Every single dealer said they were sold out and the website was out of date. Thats when I started getting a little angry took a day off work for nothing. Possibly need to find a dealer who does accept orders, but who to believe at this point? I haven't seen a launch this misjudged in years, unless this is on purpose. I really think the FR-S is a token, carrot on a stick to get folks to be the tC. |

You close to Limerick, PA? Tri-County Toyota takes orders (well, I put mine in May).
You should've ordered one before they came out if you really wanted one (IMO). |

How far are you from the DC area? Koons in Tysons Corner has at least one manual Whiteout on the lot, and none of the DC area dealers sell for over MSRP.

I am a bit mystified why people are suggesting a BRZ for someone complaining about the FR-S being hard to find.
Within my 100 mile radius according to autotrader. 20 FR-S's, 3 BRZ's. Ordered my BRZ in March, estimated to arrive October. Guess who's looking at Scions... |

Find out who the highest volume Toyota dealer is in your area and see what they have in inventory. I know the FR-S's are incredibly hard to find at most dealers, but I just went in and bought one off the lot a couple of weeks ago and had my choice of three 6mt cars there (I believe the other two sold the same day).
Looking at their inventory now, they have a red and a white 6mt and a white auto in stock. Like others said, you can contact the dealer and see if you can arrange delivery or see what options they have available to you as an out of state buyer. You should be able to find one within a decent driving radius. I've flown out to both CA (3000 miles) and FL (1600 miles) to buy cars and drive them back (not FR-S's). If you really want a particular vehicle, you may need to put in a little more effort. Besides, a road trip in your new FR-S is not the worst possible outcome of a limited supply. -Justin

In Australia the wait on a high-spec in a manual has blown out to 18 months. Every market for this car is demanding more. And Subaru only have the one plant in Japan to try and cater for the whole world! Japan's demand itself was four or six times more than anticipated /allocated in the first month alone (IIRC)!
The release and demand of this car FR-S/BRZ/86 was horribly under gauged and short. I feel your pain man |
