No seat belt.

The one thing i mostly hate about Toyota is that annoying beep reminding me to put my seatbelt on!
Is there a fuse for this or anyway i can turn that off?
I know its illegal but ill be sure and remember not to give a cop a ride in my car.

You won't hear it beeping if you drive it in to a wall without your seatbelt on. There was a guy selling his OEM seatbelts in classifieds, why not buy and you can cut off the buckle and plug it in when you drive.

Internet is a bad place to ask these type of questions because everyone is a saint and every "safety" feature on a car will save your life daily. I asked how to disable DRLs and a slew of ZOMG WHY PUT YOURSELF AT RISK post ensued.

I assure you this will not be very different.

I hate the beeping as well, I've never subscribed to the idea of "seatbelt first, then start the car". I do ALWAYS wear my seatbelt, but I don't put it on until I get close to a an actual road. Don't know why, but that's where my OCD habit has formed. Driving through my neighborhood street at 15mph or in a parking lot, I leave it off.

Is the beep coming from the gauge cluster or the speakers?

If it's coming from the gauge cluster you could try covering the speaker with some electrical or foam tape, or remove the speaker.

I was so tired of the beeping in my Pontiac Vibe (Corolla/Matrix Twin) that I removed the speaker, and I have been living beep free ever sense. Here's the thread I made detailing the mod.
http://forums.genvibe.com/phpBB3/vie...p?f=28&t=25922

Edit: Disclaimer : I always wear my seatbelt when driving. Just don't need my car beeping at me while I get it started.

This isn't about not wearing the seatbelt, we can all agree that's a dumb idea. The seatbelt is fine. Its about disabling the chime. Disabling the chime may have some stretch of illegality. You CAN have one without the other and still be a safe driver. Geez.

You would have to actually remove the little speaker that makes the chime. My old corolla had a buzzer that was annoying as hell. i was doing some work on the car that required me to have it running and that buzzer just kept buzzing. I just reached up under the drivers side dash, found the box and unplugged it. I

I know, everyone is so righteous. They remind me of obnoxious non-smokers. For the record, I'm not a smoker.

I'm just surprised people find the chime annoying. It's more of a 'friendly reminder' chime than a 'danger' or 'caution' chime/beep.

This method works on subarus that have the seatbelt beeping feature, its like a nintendo cheat mode,
Turn the ignition to ON. The engine should be off, Within 30 seconds, insert and eject the buckle all the way in and out 20 times, but do 30 to be sure. You can hold the release button down if you like, try it for fun and find out if it works

It would be annoying after minutes of it though.

I've driven my car around for a bit without the belt on (not on the street, I don't care what others do but I do wear the belt on the street, but not around paddocks, driving across airports for autocross sites, etc) and it seems like it stops beeping after 2-3 minutes anyways. Maybe I haven't driven it long enough past that point for it to come back on though.

Usually unplugging the previously mentioned plug under the seat will disable it, but on these new intelligent airbag cars I don't know..

It really goes beyond that (although I agree with you).

You get into an accident and go through your windshield but you don't die. You're rushed into surgery and get some crazy stuff done which costs tons of money. Your insurance only covers say...35K of your 110K bill which saddles you with 75K of medical bills. You pay for a couple years but then realize that filing bankruptcy is easier than paying your bills. You in essence default on your debt.

Think the Hospital just sucks that up? Nope...that's a tax write off. Know who ends up paying for that? Taxpayers.

Safety in cars and on bikes isn't because the government is too touchy feely...it's because tax payers were tired of bailing out people who couldn't pay their bills (not that I blame them directly).

Wear your seatbelt, don't get mangled in an accident, then I won't have to pay your hospital bill.

Unplugging the seat harness will likely cause an issue with the airbag, because, as mentioned, the "intelligent" system is calculating that you are wearing your seatbelt when the airbag deploys--if not, you will probably hit the airbag sooner in a violent collision, doing some of the aforementioned damage.

OP: In my own opinion (naturally I will respect yours, even if I strongly disagree with it) I prefer to buckle up because it becomes habit, and in an emergency when its necessary, you aren't going to think to put the seatbelt on. But, good luck.

You can't predict that. You could be doing 5mph and some jackass could come whipping in at 40mph and nail you. It's not how fast YOU are driving, or what you think will happen...it's just being prepared for all eventualities no matter how remote.

Anyway, whatever, I couldn't care less if people don't wear their seatbelts, I was merely pointing out the contradiction in that guys decision making process.
