The tC isn't terrible (although I prefer the looks of last generation to this one), but it's not nearly as awesome as the fuse concept Scion was showing as the claimed replacement for the tC.
![]() It looks like the only thing they used from this concept is the rear pillar, which looks awful on the tC. -Justin |

-the xB floundered because the 2nd gen got bigger, fatter, heavier, and thirstier than its predecessor. -the xD floundered because...well it was basically a 5 door yaris. and it replaced the xA that no one cared about either. -the tC...sort of replaced the celica but wasnt as sporty as the celica and had the Camry 4cyl which was meh compared to the high revving 2zz. It was the cruiser vs the flyweight pocket rocket the Celica was. the 2nd gen suffered from the tC's dwindling popularity. Is it a better car? probably, but it didnt do enough to convince buyers that it was the best choice among its competition (being the Kia forte koup, and civic coupe among them) then you have the fact that Scion itself was a US only brand from its inception until i think late 2010/early 2011 when it finally made its way up to Canada. It started off strong but they didnt do enough to keep up with change when the fast and the furious fad dropped off. Only now we got the IQ, FRS and the tC. I honestly think they should have kept the xB and turned it back into the small, high mileage, practical box that it first was. the xB was what defined Scion I think. heck theres still room for quirky cars like a mini truck, mini-minivan or even a FJ40 sized mini off roader jeep. |

Here's my take on the situation.
Toyota designed the car. Subaru built it. Scion marketed it. Who gets to have their badge on it? Well all of them!. Toyota front badge. Scion airbag. Subaru rear badge. Mass confusion! Or whatever you'd like to do. Why would Toyota bring the car to the US as Scion? Well look at what Scion has to offer on their product line. To me their product line is just ugly. I personally think of the xB whenever the name Scion comes up. That thing is just a box on wheels. They need a boost. Toyota is banking on the enthusiasts to spread the word about the FR-S that its a Toyota/Subaru. Scion benefits from this due to name association. Well you can say Toyota's name can be somewhat hindered by having the FR-S under Scion well Toyota has a long heritage and if they really want to put their name out they'll just start producing the Supra (which they already applied for the trademark) again. What would the reaction be if Toyota USA released the next gen Supra as a Scion?

I just don't get why they made the scion badge look so similar to a nissan badge.

I also wondered why Hyundai has been able to get away with their badge. It's very similar to Honda's and.... I don't think if I made an italicized Toyota badge it would be okay.
![]() Then again, maybe I've been reading too much Apple vs. Samsung lately!
