Reviving this old thread. Yeah, I dunno. Better than nothing but I think I'll stick with a traditional extinguisher at this time.

Yikes, I've never seen that video but I already knew the Element fire extinguishers don't work well when windy. Despite that, I still chose to keep 2 in the center console to help buy time.

yeah i put one in every vehicle with the understanding this is enough to get out and maybe deal with small fires. the main advantage is that it snuffs the fire out, it doesn't leave a whole bunch of caustic chemicals all over. most times powder/chemical fire extinguishers are used, the chemicals start eating into the stuff around that would've otherwise been recoverable.

The main benefit is that this will be able to buy you time at the track until fire rescue can arrive. Even if it just supresses the fire in windy conditions, it will absolutely increase your chances.
As with most fire/safety equipment, this is about buying time effectively, not addressing the issue altogether. A fire suit doesn't put out the fire; it buys you time. |

I watched a street class S2K suffer some pretty bad fire damage and couldn't believe they didn't have anything in the car. Would have saved a lot of grief. Given the layout on boxers, I find it even more important.

I think that test video shows you pretty much all you need to know; hardly accomplishes anything really.

It smothers the fire by displacing air. Obviously if it's windy, it won't work. In closed quarters, it'll work fantastically. If you're in a burning car trying to get out, deploying one in the cabin will keep the fire out of the cabin in addition to whatever other fire suppression you have active, so you can get out. |
