Which, UOA already shows and has been proven time and time again over many decades.

C7 Z51 thread: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ack-build.html Camaro SS 1LE thread: https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=375406 My BRZ does not have enough miles on it yet, but I'm definitely planning on getting it tested, too. I'd love to share the results. I do not exceed 270s degrees F at the track, similar to pretty much every other car I've used at the track, except perhaps the '06 C6 Z06, which ran cooler.

Synthetic oil is fine at 270F IMHO. Those who want to potentially compromise warranty coverage and get oil temps down some by going aftermarket cooler, go for it! I'll sleep like a baby knowing my BRZ can get up to 270F-ish with synthetic oil on the track. |

Wondering if Jackson Racing will release a dual radiator / oil cooler like they have for the 1st gen. Could be a decent compromise for NA folks, should def be the cheapest option.

As for an aftermarket cooler, I'll be if you lunch a bearing with an aftermarket cooler on the car they are going to blame it and deny the claim.

They already have - I ordered last week and will pickup soon from their shop. But I don't believe it is the cheapest option ($999).

On a good oil, yes it can take the heat without damaging the engine. BUT, you know how much power you are losing from the ECU pulling all of the timing because it is seeing oil that hot? Takes all of the fun out of a track day, unless you are already slow and don't notice it.

Don't know much about BRZ's specific ECU, though.

I have not seen a modern ECU that doesn't pull timing when Oil temps get too hot.

Well this is an interesting point. I'm hoping someone smarter than me (or JDMChris and X25) can tell us for sure how the second gen cars manage timing with relation to oil temps.

FWIW I never saw any timing compensation tables on the 1st gen that referenced oil temps. Coolant temps, yes. IAT, yes. But not oil temps.
This was using romraider and OFT. 2nd gen may be different.

I don't notice timing being pulled on my '17. Terminal speeds at ends of straights are same on lap 4+ at fully developed oil temps (270-275F) as on 1st hot lap at 225F

Rear world example.
2nd gen pulls on a S2k on a roll race. 8 roll races later, the 2nd gen is now losing to the s2k. Alternatively, many back to back pulls of a 2nd gen on a dyno reveals a consistent drop in output. Is it the oil temp or something else? Who knows. |
