I've never had the balls to open a vintage port with tongs.

Not "food" per se but I ordered a Sodastream and it came today. Will post here if I can successfully make a drinkable soda.

Uh oh. This is about to become a sodastream thread. I've been hacking away at mine for years. I refill my CO2 bottles with dry ice. Don't try this at home, kids. There's some technique which also applies in order to make the fizziest water possible. I wish Kool-Aid came in Dr. Pepper and cola flavors because I already make soda out of all the others.

Heh. My first try made a big mess everywhere. I locked the bottle into place but I guess somehow I should've inserted it further in. So it sprayed everywhere. Second try came out great, though the flavor wasn't strong enough yet.

I got the model with three fizz settings. Middle one seems to be about what I've gotten when I open a can of regular bubble water. Curious how the hard fizz option will be.

For now I just got a peach flavor thing and their faux Dr. Pepper mix, which I'll try in a bit. Curious to see how it tastes.

I was looking into it and apparently since Pepsi owns them now they did a limited international release of Pepsi flavors as sodastream mixes but they decided not to sell them here because the flavor profile sucked, since they couldn't saturate the flavor mix with enough sugar lol

The fizz settings are BS. Anything less than full saturation is like drinking flat soda. The challenge is to get as much CO2 dissolved as possible. This is achieved by
  1. Getting the water as close to freezing as possible
  2. Purging all air from the bottle so only CO2 remains

I fill the bottle a third with ice cubes. Then I add the water. Most of the ice is dissolved by the time it's carbonated.

I used to make soda all the time when I had my beer brewing set-up. I would use a 5 gal. SS keg, and hook it to my carbonating 30lb CO tank for a couple weeks. My favorite was cream soda.

Zero, so far. *knocks on wood* The relief valve is pretty conservative.

I ruptured a diaphragm on a CO2 bottle once. Didn't purge enough before closing it.

I have had a 1.8K burst disc rupture a couple times on an HPA tank. It is code brown moment.

Where'd you get the cream soda flavor? Or did you make it yourself?

I'm looking for a sarsaparilla mix. I looove that kind of flavor, not regular root beer. I saw that one of these flavor company places in Portland sells a sarsaparilla flavor concentrate so I might just see how it is.
