Auto blipping downshifts is a feature in many aftermarket tunes, I wonder how well that can be set up? Does it even compare? I've never had a rev matching manual to compare to.

Saw a few videos/articles saying the GR86 CG is down 1+mm. If I recall correctly, the Japanese sources put the CG as being lowered 4mm? Or was that only for the BRZ....

No GPF/OPF in sight! Neither here nor in the photos/videos of the engine in the Japanese videos. Woohoo!

Cool. They got rid of the SS Enterprise sitting on the back parcel shelf.

Auto blipping is a crutch for people that haven't learned to heel toe yet, you should really learn to do it on your own(unless you have a physical ailment that doesn't allow you to) before you become reliant on it. You basically set a delta for X rpm that you want it to blip when the clutch is pushed in. In reality, your rev match is not going to be the same depending on the situation so it's not perfect.

While I agree it is a good skill to learn, I think that is overstating it. Some Porsche factory drivers used to say the same thing. Then Porsche dialed in the programming for auto blip and after a year of using it they prefer to be automated. The crew prefers it also as the transmissions have been more reliable since implementation of auto blip.

But when relying on the automated blip, it is just another thing that takes away from driving engagement. I am not saying doing it yourself is faster or better, it is just another way to enjoy the vehicle. Which is why I refuse to buy an automatic transmission, outside of the family hauler. I want to be engaged with the car, not set record lap times. Nobody is paying me to drive a car, so I would rather have more engagement and that brings me more enjoyment. |

I haven't really gotten comfortable heel toeing, so I just do blip shifts and it works fine for my driving style, even when I'm having a bit of fun. Honestly though I don't see a need for auto blip. Just learn how to blip shift! It's just a matter of timing it.

I'd say the torque is comparable, maybe a tiny bit better in the new car. Factory tune on the GR86 has a slight torque dip but it goes by quickly. This really is a car you could leave in 3rd on track and just hammer without feeling like it was a dog. Top-end on the new car is definitely a noticeable improvement. You really do notice the extra horsepower after the AVCS Crossover. I want to buy a GR86 solely so I can header/e85 tune it and see what it can do, I have a feeling it will be a very impressive package making potentially ~240whp.

I'm curious if the FA24 exhaust manifold is as restrictive as the 2017+. Would be nice to keep the stock cats for emission purposes and just do an E85 tune.
