The 2.0T Supra is ideal for anyone wanting to get into a Supra, but who isn’t into maximum performance, which is actually the majority of buyers. The ZF and 2.0T get to 60 fast enough for the majority of buyers who just want a sporty car. My uncle bought a brand new base 991.2, and I asked why no S? The guy has three houses, so he could easily afford it, but he said the base is fast enough. It’ll stay stock for the life of the car until it gets sold. That is the majority of people commuting in their sporty car. Some buyers will get in the Supra and be sold before they even go for a ride compared to the Z simply for the interior quality or quietness or MMI or proximity warning sensors in the bumpers. They could care less about the engine. Gotta take your perspective out of the enthusiast world for a moment to consider who are the buyers of these cars that aren’t YouTubers.

Has anyone noticed that the new Z was never spotted in camouflage at any race tracks for dynamic research and development? Maybe it did happen but we never saw the pics but I would think the car paparazzi would think the Z is a big friggin deal type car.

I don’t regret my Supra purchase or do i plan to sell it anytime soon. I love my bmw interior; it’s far superior to Toyota’s interior. Lexus interior is nice on the other hand. I just don’t think the Z will have the same interior quality as the Supra. I’ll give Nissan credit on the 3.0TT as long as it solves the over heating issues commonly found in all Zs (300zx - 370z)

I think the chassis is largely a carry-over from the 370Z. The engine architecture has been around in the Q50/60 since 2016, and in the GTR since 2008, but I believe it is largely an evolutionary design from the VQ anyways, so again, the testing has been done. I'm sure they did wind tunnel testing on the bodywork and computer simulations. Considering that and the tight financial situation they are in, I wouldn't be surprised if testing has been limited on a full production model. Even if it hasn't, they have some time to do some small tweaks, as I believe the car is not even slated to be released until '21 or '22.

Both cases are heavy refreshes and not brand new models, so perhaps they didn't need exhaustive testing of the new cars and it was enough to test with 370z mules (or old ISs)?

But the majority of buyers aren't opting for the 2.0 Zupra. Toyota only forecasted a 20% intake rate for them. Even the NA A80 turd had almost a double percentage rate. I also don't think they are even meeting that super low traget goal. It could just be a regional thing, but according to a Toyota stealership manager in the Austin area they are having a hard time moving them. The 2.0 also faces competition from lightly used 2020 3.0s. A lot of these used ones only have around +/-5k on the odometer and can be had for about the same amount as a new 2.0. I know some are going to say it's not fair to compare new to used, but it's not like we're talking about a used GTR that's been driven for 50k miles. A comparison that a lot seem to be using online. Personally, I think Toyota went wrong with the 2.0 by not offering a manaul. The pro 2.0 people from the beginning said it was going to come with all the bells and whistles from the 3.0 but with a smaller engine displacement at $10k less. So when we found out that we basically got Japan's stripped out model it's no wonder why these things aren't flying off the shelf. Taking my feeling out of it the article on the last page shows about half of Z buyers chose a manual. We can revisit this topic once the Z is released and we start seeing numbers from both automarkers. I still stand by what I said earlier. I think Toyota will have to reevaluate the Zupra lineup in the near future. Last edited by vh_supra26; 03-24-2021 at 05:11 PM. |

they also said the 2.0 was going to come with a MT as seen on the lower spec EU Z4 and we all know how that turned out. |

2.0 is priced at 84% of 3.0 $$$. A80 non-turbo was less $$$ relatively at 75% of turbo. Definitely a factor...

That 2.0T Supra has the more favorable weight IMHO though but it should've been a bit cheaper but BMW parts demand a premium.
