Check engine, can OFT tune help?
So I'm not sure if this topic has been covered I tried to search couldn't really find the exact answer I was looking for. So I recnet installed skunk 2 headers and put a defouler and now I have a check engine light popping up. I've heard sometimes the lights still Pop up with a defouler and the only true way to get rid of the light is to get a tune. Now I heard ecutek tune can solve this but I was wondering can the Open Flash Tablet get rid of my check engine light with there tune for my car. I'm running an injen intake, skunk 2 catless headers EL, and Takeda catback exhaust as far as engine mods. Any help and input will be greatly appreciated thank you.

the check engine light is a result of the ecu testing cat efficiency and finding its below spec as it no longer exists, 02 spacers or defoulers attempt to fool ecu they dont work all the time. all you rearly need is to disable the ecu checking for cat cefficiency cel code P 0420. it would be possible to do this on stock tune if you had an appropiate flashing device. a tune for catless headers will not only disable the cel code P0420 , but also adjust the fueling ignition and intake and exhaust cxam timings to take advantage of your better flowing header. catless header without a tune will yeild maybe 8 hp where with a tune it will be arround 20 hp at wheels. similar results will be achieved with oft tune ecutek tune or most competent tuners. the injen intake will require the maf sensor to be rescaled for best results. see links below for more info Last edited by steve99; 01-21-2015 at 05:01 AM. |

Carista and a [ame="http://www.amazon.com/ScanTool-427201-OBDLink-Bluetooth-Diagnostic/dp/B00H9S71LW/ref=sr_1_6/176-5415704-0172611?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1421880706&sr=1-6&keywords=obd2+bluetooth"]dongle[/ame] will also clear CEL's.
I have that dongle, works great with anything but a Crapple product because they don't like standard protocols. |

Your crazy for running all those mods and no tune. Not safe and your car must drive like garbage.

Once you flash stage 2 your going to smack your forehead for not getting the OFT long time ago. You are going to need to adjust your MAF scale to compensate for your CAI. Pay the extra $200 for custom tune or, even better, cheaper put your stock intake back on and sell that CAI to some other shmuck who thinks it makes power.

The injen intake doesn't flow air to the MAF sensor well and causes inconsistent readings from the MAF. The ECU uses the MAF to determine how much fuel to add to the air coming in. Inconsistent MAF makes inconsistent AFR. The stock air box with a drop in and a intake tube is you best intake for N/A. For you I think the OFT or a professional tune is your best bet. OFT if you want the flexibility to flash back a forth between stock and what every tunes OFT has or if you just want a professional tuner to set it and forget it to go fast.

Not to thread jack, but I'm also about to purchase an OFT, and I was curious... I'll be running a full TopSpeed exhaust (UEL, downpipe, overpipe) as well as my FA20Club CAI. Is this what would be considered "stage 2" on the OFT base tunes?

I would ditch the fa20 club intake and run our stage 2 UEL OTS map. The intake will require custom tuning since it interferes with MAF readings and ultimately doesn't improve engine performance.

Curious though, and I'll run a search, but wouldn't I be throwing a CEL if it was causing a MAF misread? None so far.

Nope. It would take a huge MAF misreading error to cause a MAF related CEL. But only a very small misreading to have a significant effect on open loop fueling.

Hey Shiv, if I have a full catless exhaust, and install a drop in air filter instead of a CAI, should I go Stage 2+ OTS map? I’m gonna get Tomei UEL, Tomei Over pipe, Invidia Front pipe and have a Borla Catback.
