If your wheels do not have "pockets" like the green arrows are pointing to, you will have to choose to: 1) use 25mm spacers instead. 2)Shave 5mm off the studs (iv'e done this - I do not recommend) 3) Use extended studs with a little bit thinner spacers. Most wheels have pockets, so you should be ok. It is something to check out though.

When a twin is lowered around 1" on springs, it will usually add around -1.6 to -2.2 of natural rear camber. Lowering the car will not add a noticeable amount of camber in the front though. You will need a set of camber bolts for the front. ( or two sets...)

Offset is measured from the center of the wheel in mm. If the hub is closer to the face it will have a positive offset. If a wheel has a wide lip it usually has an offset close to zero. If a wheel is all lip, it will have a negative offset. This tool is great! enter your existing setup and your desired setup. It will calculate the difference. https://www.willtheyfit.com/

A 17x7.5 +35 wheel with a 20mm spacers brings the wheels hub 20mm closer to a zero offset. This makes it +15 offset. Or 15mm from the center of the wheel.

My old setup was very close to what you are getting. I had 18x8 +45 with 25mm spacers and 215/40/18 tires. I was lowered on Eibach proKit springs 1" and had one set of camber bolts in the front. Your 17x7.5 +15 will poke 1.3mm more than my car's front wheel, in the pic below. (my rear is a 18x9 +42 witha 12mm spacer in this pic. tire is 245/35/18)

Cheers!
Very informative, thanks!

Hey guys, I'm planning to lower my car ~1.25 inches in the front and 1 inch in the rear on ST coils. What wheels and tires would fit that spec?
I would prefer if...

The tires aren't too stretched
The wheel is 18" (if possible) (square set up)
There are no camber plates / LCAs needed
The fitment is flush / a little tucked in (no poke)

Thanks!

YES!

Conservative side...
For what you are looking for, I'd suggest 18x8 +35 wheels with 225/40 tires. (+25mm poke compared to stock in front)

Aggressive-ish...
I'd suggest 18x8.5 +35 wheels with 245/35 tires. (+32mm poke compared to stock in front)

My wheels in the front (pictured above) have +43mm of poke compared to stock in the front.

I've been running staggered SA-15Rs with spacers. I wanted to get a second set of wheels for easy winter/summer swaps, so I got a staggered set of XXR 527s. The problem is, I can't find anyone else running these in 18x8, so I don't know what tire size will work. I'm most concerned about the fronts. I'm probably about 1 inch lower on coilovers. Any advice?

Current SA-15Rs:
18x8.5 +48
7mm spacer
235/40

New XXR 527s:
18x8 +42
7mm spacer

What wheel/tire width are you running in the rear?

After trying several different staggered setups and then going back to square: It is my opinion that the closer to the same width the tires are the better.

225/40 is a great size for 18x8 wheels.

+42 with a 7mm spacer is +35. You will not have any rubbing issues anywhere with this wheel/offset.

Thanks for the quick reply! With my current setup, I wanted a more aggressive fitment in front, but a 15mm spacer caused rub. Would a slightly wider tire fill the space better?

This is what I have for the rears. I'm happy with the current fitment. Definitely open to advice here as well.

Current SA-15Rs:
18x9.5 +48
15mm spacer
265/35

New XXR 527s:
18x8.75 +35
15mm spacer

Since you are lowered on coils. You have some natural rear camber helping your wheels tuck; probably around -2.0. The cars suspension doesn't add a usable amount of camber in the front though. Do your coils have front camber plates? If not, get a set of camber bolts, you will want to add some negative camber in the front. -1.5 at least. I'm at -2.5 in the front pictured above. Then you can use thicker spacers.

My car above has a 18x8 +45 with a 25mm spacer added in the front. Making it a 18x8 +20. The rear is a 18x9 +42 with 15mm spacer. Your 18x8.75 +20 wheel pokes 3.8mm more than my rear wheels.

I'm running HKS Hipermax IV GT Coilovers which do have camber plates. I didn't want to mess with them since I had gotten an alignment and corner balance, and I figured that would negate those benefits. That was about a year ago though, so I probably should look into it again.

For the rears, I had calculated about 3mm more poke from the new setup, so I figured there was a good chance I'd have to switch to some 7mm spacers that I have lying around. I'm tentatively planning 235/40 tires.

Got offered a good deal on some wheels and tires that were used.

Option Lab R716 18x9.5 +35
255/35/18 Toyo HP Extensa ll.

Will this fit on stock suspension?

Or will I definitely need to buy coilovers and new LCA?

Wondering if I can buy new tires too.

I’ve seen people run that setup on stock suspension. Think it’ll be a bit close up front so you might want to get some spacers. But it will poke a lot and give you that good ol’ 4x4 look lol Those are some good wheels and great tires. The way I see it, if you’re getting a good deal on them already, why not spend the money you saved on some coilovers? Especially with the Cyber Monday and Christmas sales. You can run that setup till you get coils, but it’ll look kinda funny lol

Yeah that's the thing I'm worried about is not clearing the stock suspension since it apparently it'll sit very close to the spring perch.

I'm probably getting wheels first then coilovers later. Afraid someone might snatch them before I can get to them.

Any word on if it rubs though?

Might be getting the TEIN Flex Z coilovers. Also thinking about just getting 245s as well.

EDIT: Would camber bolts do anything?

I'm admittedly not very knowledgeable when it comes to wheel/suspension stuff on cars.

Getting new tires, possibly rims in the future

Hey everyone,

My Michelin Primacy HPs are at the end of their life and I need new tires for my otherwise stock BRZ.

After doing a lot of reading I have decided to break the bank and go with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S for the stock BRZ rims (I already have winter tires )

My main question is, since I'm likely just going to stick with the standard tire size of 215/45/R17 for the MPS4S will this have any downside if I choose to get new rims in the future that are slightly wider?

TireRack shows that the 215s will fit a 7-8" wheel, or should I get the 225s which will also fit a 7-8.5" wheel? Would it make a big difference to choose one over the other?

I've been wanting the TSW Nurburgring rims in 17x8 +45 if I can find them, I just don't wanna spend all the money on both tires and rims right now.

Any help would be appreciated (apologies for my noobness)

It will likely fit with a 245/35 tire or maybe 235/40. I dont think you'd be able to fit a 255/35, but all tires are different and have slight variances. No, the camber bolt isnt going to give you clearance if anything it will hinder it because if you decide to run camber in the front its only going to be get closer to the spring perches.

No, there's no downside of getting slightly wider wheels. A 215/45/17 tire size will fit on a 17x8 wheel just fine, but if you decide you want to get wheels that are 17x8.5 or higher you will need a 225/45/17 or larger.
