100whp with a downpipe, exhaust and a tune. It ran mid 11's.

442whp and 478wtq, which essentially means that there is C8 Corvette numbers or higher for less money. Corvette is still mid-engine with some other nice benefits, but it means the Supra can hold its own.

Because straight line is the only important thing.

The torque curve really drops after 4.5kish RPM both stock and tuned. Is the stock engine/turbo out of steam in the upper RPMs? Anyone try adding ethanol and increased the timing in the upper RPM to keep the torque curve flat?

I know they're not the same engines but a lot of the FA20 (WRX) ethanol tunes can keep the torque flat almost to redline by dramatically increasing timing.

I wish I had a dollar for every "500 dynos ATW" car that couldn't back up the claims on the strip.

I would have "lots" of dollars....

I think the point was that just because the supra is capable of making the same power does not mean necessarily that it can "hold its own' against the C8 (as hp/speed in a straight-line are only one factor of what makes a car great). Regardless, I think both cars are great and love that we have so many nice options coming out.

Because track times are the only important thing.

We can play the back and forth all day long. I get what he meant. My point was that the Supra has gotten a lot of flack for having "only" 335hp/365tq. It was apparent that these numbers were under-reported, or rather, that the figures were closer to whp/wtq versus flywheel. Still, since the release of the Corvette, people have questioned the value of the Supra even more, and I would have to agree that the Corvette offers a remarkable value for the money (power/tq, mid engine, dry sump, DCT), but I wanted to illustrate that the Supra will be able to close that gap some by out muscling the car with power.

There is a $10k difference in price, which is substantial, especially if a downpipe ($250), an exhaust ($750), and a tune (maybe $1500) can net more power than the Corvette. What would another $7500 do? Stay tuned...that channel is adding a bigger turbo. My guess is with a larger turbo, larger injectors and E85 the car will be capable of 600hp+.

Let's face it, the MKIV was decent on the track, but its bread and butter was being a high horsepower, highway queen, and that is what is likely to happen for both of these new cars. Most owners will be buying for the looks, for the feel and for the power then a smaller percentage will actually be pushing their car in the canyons from time to time and less still will be taking their car to the track. The Corvette is likely to be a Sunday driver for the middle aged man or converted into some twin turbo monstrosity for horsepower junkies, while the Supra is likely to be a tuner car and a daily driver for the JDM enthusiasts.

$750 for an exhaust.

LOL, good luck. I feel like you need to double the price of that.

Were you by any chance parked at the Arboretum for a while on Sunday the 3rd? I rode by on 51 a few times (twice over a 3-4 hour span) and saw a red Supra parked there.

I really doubt the factory exhaust is limiting its power.

Best bang per dollar will be E85. Im curious if it will have fueling issues when running higher ethanol content.

Saw a couple of red Supras at Palmer Motorsports Park in Palmer MA yesterday, they unloaded as we were finishing up our time-trial track day (COMSCC). They looked sweeet... They had some serious SUV-mounted video gear and a zillion wheels/tires on hand, we should see some great slideways footage at a very picturesque road course soon...
