Screwed.

So I went to my local dealer, in SoFla, and wanted to get a Whiteout MT and they told me that there was one in Georgia that they got in a trade with the FR-S that was coming to their dealer and it will be here next week. So you can imagine that I was very happy that I was getting the car that I have been following for over 2 years was finally going to be mine. Well I was wrong! So I showed up today asking about the car and they told me that other dealer, Georgia dealer, sold the car off and that they had the original car, Asphalt/AT, here now. Went to look at it and noticed that it was over 28.5k. The whiteout that I wanted was a little over 27k. Their car had the upgraded radio and Toyota care on it. Not only that they were also putting additional $500 on it. The dealer continuously kept saying how this one was better and so on. First they told me that they would give me sticker and he walked in and walked back out saying now they have to put 500 more on it, walked back in and came back out saying well because the car is so new and they, the dealer, doesn't think that the car will be back next year meaning that they are only going to make the FR-S/BRZ one year was it for me. So I asked them for my 2k deposit back, btw I put a 2k deposit on the Whiteout, and they told me that I had to come back tomorrow to get it. I come online to look at my back and they took the money. This has not been a very good day for me and the whole time driving back I was screaming obscenities in my car. I could just imagine what people thought while looking at me. Just not a good day for me. Thank you for reading my rant. Sorry if anything was not grammar correct or spelled wrong just got back from dealer and still steaming. Thank you for your time.

I know the feeling, when my sales guy called me and told me that the frs had just arrived and I saw it for 34k I thought I would never have one anytime soon. However, don't let it get you down, keep looking around for what you want, I'm pretty sure there will be plenty of theese cars for years to come, and no matter what do not pay a penny over msrp, unless it's for options which you actually want.

Wow, those Florida dealerships are making it really hard on you guys aren't they? Perhaps you should look outside of the state for one. I got mine in June and there was NO hassle. Although I am on the opposite end of the country..

I meant that as far as I know Scion doesn't have or is not supposed to have any mark up on their cars but Toyota vehicles do. So if you go to buy a scion what ever MSRP is, it won't be a penny less or a penny more but on Toyota vehicles or other brands they will be able to discount or mark up prices.

Sorry I guess I didn't made my self clear.

I believe that even if you go to a Toyota dealer, when they sell you a Scion is under the Scion brand. But the dealers are being smart a$$ses, and the way they are marking up FRS's is by adding (e.g. tints, Toyota care, Nav unit) for 5K, making it look like you are paying for "something" but really its a huge markup because those things are not worth even 20% of that.

Correct and scion can mark up just like any other dealership.

What you said is exactly what they put on the car that they wanted to sell me. $400 for tints?????? Are you freaking kidding me! But yeah Nav, Toyota care and all that jazz was things that I don't want plus they wanted to add $500 more on top of that.

Shit man.... that sucks... don't give up. You will find one keep calling and asking anywhere in FL. They show online they are getting four more whiteouts in July 23-24. They will have the car sit at the lot...

did you ask for them to order a car with NOTHING added? Some people have had success with that.

I am close to Kendall Toyota but don't know what they are doing with their FRS's.

I LMAO that I nailed what they added and I honestly said it randomly.

I had multiple deposits at different dealerships. They ALL ended up giving the money back (after a month) when i got my FR-S.
I think they have to give you your money back.

What are you saying here?

If you made a deposit on a car and they did not get it to sell it to you and don't have another one exactly like it for the same price you can get your money back no problem....well if they do refuse to refund your deposit, I'm sure an attorney can get it back and then some for fraud.

I think he tried to say he looked online at his bank account and noticed they charged his credit card for the deposit.

That sucks. I also second Lipton Toyota. That's where I got mine at. And I had 7 miles on mine when I picked it up and it was perfect with exactly what I wanted and nothing I didn't. I had to wait just over a month for it to come in, but they got it for me.

You should ditch the Homestead dealership and try someplace else.

I would flat out say "There are plenty of HONEST dealers around the country where I'd rather go to spend my money." Also, if they spew BS like how the FR-S is being made for one year only, call them out on it. Heck, make a scene about how uninformed the dealer is in the lobby so people buying other cars would think twice about shopping there.

You can also threaten to ruin their rep online from your bad shopping experience - at the same time, you can tell them how you will gloat about a good shopping experience to see if you can get more out of them. Dealers need the local connections and it's a shame the bad apples are still ruining the rep of the good dealers who are out there.

This is why I refused to put down a deposit. There are GOOD dealers out there but there are even more shady ones around. You will find the car, I promise. Just when I decided that I was going to wait until January, the car that I had been looking for just appeared. It will happen for you too!!

The problem is that with the FR-S/BRZ in its first year of production, I would be hesitant to give up Florida "Lemon Law" protection on a car purchased/leased out of Florida.

It happened to me with a car purchased in Maryland and registered in Florida... and the Maryland "Lemon Law" didn't apply to a car not registered in Maryland!

It may be different in other states though.

Disclaimer: I'm not an attorney, and may be wrong, but like I said, it happened to me.

If you decide that you want to come to Orlando than let me know. I'll hook you up with my sales guy. Top notch, no B.S. and no mark up.

Yeah what sportsguy83 said. When I wrote this I had just gotten back from the dealer and was still, what you would call pissed.

Yeah I kinda went off on him at that point telling him that I have been following the car for over 2 years and knew more about it then anyone else there and that the fact that they had to increase the production of the call is somewhat clear that the car is selling like hot cakes so I seriosly doubt that they would stop the cars production, makes no sense. I felt like bitch slapping him afterwards.

So I went to the Kendall dealer and talked to the branch manager there and told him had happened to me and was sympathetic about it. He told me that he will help me out but I need to get the 2k back from the other dealer, I think he just wanted to me to get the money back so it doesn't feel like I have money all over the place. Anyway, told them what I wanted and what I didn't want. We will see how this goes. I do have a good feeling about this tho, at the other dealer I didn't have a good feeling the whole time, probably should have went with my gut.
