I found the TFL video cringe worthy more often than not. However I agree with one major thing that was mentioned.

No Manual transmission!

That is just lame, even more so when the direct competition offers manual options. No manual is like adding beard on a Victoria secret model, it is just ruined.

I'm grateful that there's sports cars with AT. I've had the AT brz for almost 3 years now. I've also recently found out that I can't really drive manual anymore...after an auto accident in 2016, my back still hurts off and on and my leg shakes when I try to use a clutch...Found this out recently on a test drive of a Bullitt.(felt like driving a pickup compared to the brz) It would have been cool to have one of the good toyota engines for the lower level supra, but I'll keep an open mind when I take a test drive in a year or two. But right now, I just can't see myself driving anything other than the brz.

Supra is going to be just under $80000 AUD brand new. Ok so a based 86 costs $35000 AUD drive away. Do I
A) buy a brand new Supra
B) Keep my 86 and modify it (Built Engine, Turbo Kit)
Add $20000 aud max on top of $35000 to do the job forged engine, turbo kit, bit and pieces etc. Im leaning towards (B) it still considerably cheap then a new Supra and quicker just don't think the Supra is that appealing with a automatic no matter how good it is i want to shift gears myself. If they come out with a 4cylinder with a manual for around $50000 AUD brand new now i might think about it. Im not paying that much money for a Toyota or any car tbh.

I would lean towards B. I wanted one of these but am unsure now. I won't know for sure until I drive one. I will keep my FR-S.

I don't think the new Supra will be raw enough. I've done some weight reduction on my FR-S and am under 2500lbs. The new Supra is 3400lbs. 900lbs difference! 650lbs stock vs stock. Add a bit of HP and you have quite the driving machine. The 86 will still give you more of an old school feel. The Supra will not. The cabin is nice and simplistic in the FR-S too. Very Nice. I also don't mind modifying a FR-S because of the original cost of the vehicle. I would likely leave a Supra stock and never track it for fear of loss/accident.

The Supra is a Grand Touring sports car and if I pick one up down the road will go in expecting just that.

The Supra falls into a very exclusive category where it is really not completely one or the other but a combination of both. This should be kept I mind when comparing it to other vehicles.

Well that's what's stopping me from going for something like a Mustang I don't like heavy cars personally, and the more powerful cars tend to be heavier. But I make exceptions for some cars like the Supra. The 86 was based on the AE86 dynamics and has a more nostalgic feel to it the interior is very 90s-80s especially the base models that are very analog feeling, I love that.

I have to say not liking the Supra's BMW interior influence though, its nothing like the old car that was very unique and had that trademark cockpit like instrument panel. It was bold but it paid off, it looks like they played it safe with the new model. Cant really complain because nothings wrong with it, but if its you new flag ship Supra try bring some of the elements of the old into the new.

Although the Supra is heavy it also has a lower centre of gravity then the 86 and reviewers keep talking about how good the rotation of the vehicle is in corners, if your a 86/BRZ owner who drives their car like it was meant to you know all to well what they are talking about, it looks like element of the 86 have translated into the Supra.

Not sure if I'm happy that its a hybrid of sorts, because you can say that the last Supra was 80% a Grand Tourer free way pulls are its bread and butter its not to comfortable on tight canyon roads although you could modify it to be,not a lot of people bother going down that avenue with a Supra. The new Supra is probably 50/50 or possible leaning slightly more to just being a sports car then a Grand Tourer, size comparisons show its not much bigger than a 86 if at all. Its got no massive wing like the last one (Rule one of Grand Tourer club, you have to have a massive Wing to be in Grand tourer club) and although it shares similar styling ques its all very busy with its body lines compared to the last one. It just looks like a sports car plain and simple if they didn't call it a Supra I would have a very hard time even putting into a Grand tourer category, it just barely slots in there.

I don’t get the “lower center of gravity than an 86” stuff. Isn’t it only because the car is like .5 inches lower than an 86 from the factory? I imagine my 86 dropped 2-2.5 inches has a lower center of gravity than a stock 86 or Supra.

I don't understand why it has no family resemblance at all.

I hope that was sarcasm.
They pretty much changed the whole line up to have that same front end!
The droopy nose and aggressive bumperis where it's at for Toyota.

It isn't angry fish mouth...but there is a resemblance, its more distinctive than the rest of the offerings though. Plus that squared out lower central portion of the bumper kind of splits the fish mouth into three and makes it look more like a mask.

Still better than the copy + paste + resize faces that a lot of cars are doing (especially the german luxury brands...namely Audi.... and Mercedes.)

I took that comment to mean the new one has no family resemblance to the "Supra family." To which I say:

Good.

The last Supra was hideous. I'm glad the new one doesn't look like that thing.

Yes in that context I agree!

Lower cg is a lower cg, regardless of how they got there. It's not necessarily indicative of chassis behavior if the car is heavier though. What does matter is the roll moment which might actually be higher because of the added weight overall.
