What's the verdict on trunk junk? Do you guys keep the spare tire and tools in the trunk during events or totally remove them? I usually remove everything but some other 86 guys at events have told me leaving them in actually helps keep the rear in check. Also, do you get alignments with or without the trunk junk?

There is something wrong with their setup if they need that weight to keep their rear in check, imho.

Take out the truck junk (leave the foam inserts).

Do alignment/corner balance with everything out, in race configuration, and driver (or weight) in drivers seat.

Agreed, take everything out, but remember to leave the black Styrofoam pieces clipped in to stay legal (not a fan of this, had to find new clips after I broke or lost all of them).

I suspect only the spare could legally be left in - the rest may not qualify as adequately secured, since it's just pressure-fit into the foam. With the cover it may be enough, but that's just held in by gravity. The foam, of course, must stay no matter what.

I find the car performs nominally better below 1/8 tank - something just feels better on fast transitions, and I have a tiny bit more control over yaw with the pedals. Stuff in the trunk? no thanks!

3M tape works well for this.

I just used long zipties and ran them through the existing clip spots in the trunk floor. 3M tape may tear the foam, which I didn't want to do (leave no trace).

I have a question regarding seats. Do the tillett b5 with the pads count as covered? I know they dont make weight but if you have them can you add weight to offset the 25lbs rule?

The rule in question reads:

The driver and front passenger seats may be replaced with the follow-
ing restrictions. The seating surface must be fully upholstered. The top
of the seat, or an attached headrest, may not be below the center of
the driver’s head. The seat, including mounting hardware, must weigh
at least 25 pounds and must be attached using the OE body mounting
holes/studs. Additional mounting points may be added.

Definitely a gray area. We need a definition of "seating surface." Everything you're sitting on is covered. But the entirety of the surfaces you're sitting on is not.

If they're legal I might pick these up though, cool seat. Seems like it would save me from having my helmet squished up against the roof like I do now lol.

I'm on the fence about registering for the Finger Lakes Tour on Wednesday. Anyone else going? It looks like it's usually a pretty good event.

Not like most of you STX regulars know who the heck I am, but I'm definitely going. It will be just my 2nd autocross event in the car. Been racing a blue BStreet Focus RS the past couple years.

Scott, it's Mike! I've made the jump to STX as well. Welcome to the dark side
