Alot of dairy comes from factory farms, where calves are taken from mothers, and made pregnant again, to keep them producing milk. Same with eggs, and "free range" may not be truely free. My neighbors chickens are, they roam all over, and are like pets.

Strict vegans won't eat most processed sugar, because they filter it thru none char.

Honey...some belive keepers remove wings from the queen to keep the give from moving. None of the keepers I know so that, so I eat local honey.

I know how milk is made. Running around milking free range cattle would be ludicrous. Unless referring to pasture cattle that will wander back to the barn all on their own when it is milking time. Those are not even remotely "free range" though.

Dairy farms are brutal on the animals. They're kept lactating by forcing them to repeatedly get pregnant, yet the calf is taken away almost immediately. And very VERY close quarters, barely within the standards that exist for 'not being cruel'... And there is a limit to how long they're useful for milk before they're sent off for... not sure, killed for pig feed? leather? not even sure what happens to the male calves that are born, if they're raised for meat or just killed immediately (as happens with male chickens).

From the animal labor perspective, wouldn't it make more sense for veagans to buy more milk, thus creating a higher demand and an environment where more efficient methods of obtaining milk, such as synthesizing, would be explored? Then they could move on to other cow products and eventually free the bovine race.

... though that might also cause cows to go exctinct so...

With dairy milk, you get into the entire health discussion. That's another huge topic. https://www.pcrm.org/good-nutrition/...ns-about-dairy
