They're different spec and drive type. Not entirely sure how it works but I think we would need to be looking to secure allocation from the Japan, UK production.

Its a double edged sword at the end of the day. Great for Toyota publicity on one hand, but long lead times are a buzz kill. Its really just the first time in recent history it has happened to Toyota. It happened to Volkswagen for Golf GTI, R, Scirocco and Polo GTI. Even Tiguan and now Touareg.

We can't lose sight of what Toyota has created here. Name another cast that had created so much hype, and then knocked every competitor out of the park with super sharp pricing. I can't think of one that did both so convincingly.

More to do with manufacturing line allocation than actual car....

As for the second point, it depends on which car you follow. You mentioned Golf R. The FJ cruiser is another great example too! But as you say, no point having a product you can't sell. 18 months wait for real? A crap load of people are going to give it a miss. And super sharp pricing is highly debatable, seems you don't get much for $40k...

the only thing you don't get much is the power/torque.

imo spec is pretty good. keyless entry/start, HID + LED DRL, sat nav, leather/suede are great and think about what other car around this price has floor and boot mats included.

I agree, it may not have much power/torque, but it's enough to enjoy. From memory, I remember reading that, during the development of the 86, it was basically designed for the owners to mod/improve it.
I think it's good value for money, but that's just my opinion.

All good but that is one huge BS sandwich he tried to feed u!!!... I wonder why he would say that? Obviously no customer would wait that long... Not almost 2yrs, atleast not without ringing a few other dealers to double check...

Just called my dealer - confirmed wait could be up to 18months. Bit of a dilemma for me atm.

I highly doubt it will be an October build as I was told mine would be November when I ordered - which it obviously won't be. Bit miffed at the moment.

Branding and GT availability. It all brings people into showrooms.

You read their letter wrong. You won't get more info 3 months after ordering. It will be within 3 months of when your car goes into production which could be 18-3 months from now.

Aka. they can't tell you anything now and when they do you still have a 4.5 month wait for delivery (3 months until built + 6 week delivery).

Aka. Even those that ordered before the launch rush but dont have a build date yet seem to be screwed.

Aka. Brb looking at evo 10s and m3s

Seriously though I don't believe the 18 month figure. They will open new runs or even factories with that many cars on order.

Yeah I am desperately hoping that they will open a new run or factories to cope with the demand. Damn car is selling like hot cakes, makes sense to up the production.

I was told today by a dealer that there is a 19 month wait on the GTS, and a 6 month wait on the GT.
Also, he asked for a $2k deposit for a test drive, i thought it was only $1k deposit.
