CEL trouble

Hi y’all doing. A while back I posted a thread on my 86 with a CEL on throwing the codes of P911f and another one I forget which other one it was. Well the dealership hasn’t been able to figure what the problem is. I bought the car in November and 2 weeks later the light came on. Here we are in April and the light is still on. Today the dealership told me that they will need to tear the motor apart to figure it out. Or I could contact Toyota about seeing if they would buy it back. What should I do???

I have a similar question.

Bought my car a little over a week ago and my CEL came on today. Code thrown was p0351 which comes back as an ignition coil A primary or secondary circuit malfunction. Car is a 2013 fr-s with 61k miles. Heard it could be a recall issue with the sensors being bad as a buddy of mine has a 2015 wrx which through the same code. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

As for the problem that started this thread. I looked up p911f on my code sheet and didn't see it on the list so sorry I couldn't help man.

If you bought the car new, and you haven't done any power modifications, and it's still under warranty, I would put the monkey on the dealerships back and have them figure out how they are going to fix it.

I didn't and I do have aftermarket exhaust but mine also went away so who knows.

The dealership told me that Toyota would take the engine apart to figure out what’s wrong with it

IF they are willing to take it out and tear it down to trouble shoot, won't they stuff a new one in for you?

As for the problem that started this thread. I looked up p911f on my code sheet and didn't see it on the list so sorry I couldn't help man.

p351 is the cyl 1 ignition coil on the front passenger side. I dont remember exactly how much it is, maybe $80-100. You are just out of warranty unfortunately. If I recall correctly, it has to do with something with an additional firing every time you shift so it gets worn more. The heat buildup on the passenger side also exacerbates the problem. Take 3 bolts off the ECU and move it out of the way. Remove the plug connecting onto the coil and unscrew the 10mm? bolt. Wrap the coil in something to insulate it from the heat. Stick in the new one and put everything back that was taken apart. You just saved yourself 100-200 bucks.

While you are at it, you may want to get new plugs too. The trick I used was either a 14mm deep socket or the spark plug socket (I dont remember if the normal plug socket worked), a short extension 3" or so, and a magnet. After removing the coil, the well will be too deep for the socket alone but not enough room to get an extension in so slide the socket in first, then connect the extension while the socket is in and unscrew. Once it is completely loose, detach the extension and use the magnet to get the socket and coil out. This may need to be done one at a time. I guarantee you cyl 1 plug will be dirtier/browner than the other 3 cylinders.

Since this is a common issue, I keep a spare coil lying around.

Finally got the issue fixed. It was the tracking device that the dealership installed. It’s cslled skylink. Had it removed and the CEL turned off. Hopefully it stays off
