Number 738 is down and likely out

It has been a while since I have posted and my news today is sad as hell.

Yesterday my beloved 2013 Scion (Number 738 according to the VIN) was the victim of another driver's poor judgement. While driving down a 4 lane road, a pickup pulled out from my right, making a left turn. I can only assume I was not seen because I had about 2 seconds before I t-boned him. The damage to the front end was substantial as I went under the truck right between it's wheels and spun the truck 180 degrees. The estimate will be coming next week but I have a feeling that my baby will be sent to the scrapyard.

Next month would have been my 6th anniversary with the car and I had just crossed 50K miles a week or so ago.

Stay tuned for updates on my heartbreaking saga.

Every time I see those videos on YouTube of people pulling U-turns like that and hitting someone all I can think of is "fucking retard."

Sorry to hear that

I've had so much dumb shit happen to me the last few days it's a wonder I haven't been squashed. Yesterday on Long Island I had three people just pull out in front of me like I wasn't even there. Today, in the snow, on the interstate I nearly got run down by a semi three times before I was able to pull onto the shoulder safely to let him go by. Then as I was able to get back into the lane it was like everyone else around wanted to play the fukk with the little sports car game until I was able to jump off at the next exit to get away from everyone. I was just rolling with traffic at ~10 over when it all started so it's not like I did anything to prompt the treatment, my wife was just amazed at what happened for no good reason.

I feel like the people posting in the "Drove my FR-S today, did not crash..." thread are being terribly disrespectful.

Sorry for your loss. Hope you get an even better Twin.

Well, that's too damn bad ........

I hope you are OK ..... ??

Last summer we had a similar incidence happen. We were going down a four lane divided highway, in broad daylight, at about 55 mph, when some dude pulled out in front of us to cross the 4 lane highway and make a left turn.

Yep, like you said, that happens quick ....... mrs humfrz didn't even get a chance to scream or mash on her make believe brake.

I managed to shift to the left and swerve just enough to miss the pickup truck.

Sounds like you may be getting a different car .....

Hope you're okay!

Fingers crossed your insurance does the right thing and compensates you accordingly. There are tons and tons of FRS' out there and theyre dropping in price, hopefully you can get a new one asap if that's your plan!

Thank goodness the frs is good at absorbing front end collisions.

Good for you, bad for the car. Glad you're ok.

Slightly off topic, but how can you tell the production number from the vin?

PS- very sorry to hear about your car but today nobody was hurt.

RIP 738. Seems like all the crash threads for twins involve mashing the front end of the car through another car.

I have been informed that 738 is indeed headed to scrap. I started looking around for a replacement but so far no luck finding the right car. I would like another Asphalt or perhaps the blue but so far no luck. I fear these sites do not differentiate between Raven or Asphalt because I have found 3 Raven's in my search but not a single Asphalt.

The last 5 digits will be the production number for that year.

There are loads that get hit from the side as well. Only a handful seem to be rear ended though.

There are a LOT more Ravens built than Asphalt. If I recall correctly the Raven is about 20% of the production and the Asphalt about 5%. May take some searching.

Perhaps a brighter colour is in order this time?

That's odd since our cars are just so damn slow. Maybe it's because the brake lights are blinding.
