Went about 2 years without any hassle from the cops. Then came a warning, then about a month after that got a ticket after I got pulled over again. Ever since then I just used a relocation kit. Saves the chance of getting pulled over and another ticket on top of what you're getting.
But really it depends on location, not just the state but the city.

I have enough illegal shit on my car that is worse so I run a front plate to avoid giving cops a reason to pull me over and check shit out.
If i get cited for anything its just the price I pay to mod my car like I want |

Son of bitch... got pulled over for the missing front license plate today!
Guess I’ll have to put the license plate on again, dammit hasn’t even been a month yet. Guys, I have these two holes on the grill, and I wanted to know if just these two holes will be strong enough to hold the bracket and the license plate? Or do I need to drill two more holes on the bumper, for more security? ...I don’t want to have the license plate and the bracket flying off while I’m driving. I don’t want to use a relocation plate because like some of you said I feel it looks for symmetrical in the middle. Thanks! |

Those holes are for the stock license plate bracket. Did one come with the purchase, possibly in your trunk? If you do it should be more than strong enough. No need to drill your bumper.

Yea, the car came with a stock bracket but there were two more holes drilled on to my old bumper, which was recently replaced. ...So I didn’t know if just these two holes on the grill would be enough to hold both the bracket and the license plate when driving. |

Colorado checking in here, it's usually just an add-on item if you get pulled over for something else. Also the meter maids downtown will absolutely cite you for it, I got hit twice.
My solution to keep it clean was to roll my plate using a piece of wood and ziptie in place on the driver side. Has a nice euro look going for it now. You can see it in this picture, I can't find one from straight in front. |

5 years in VA, 2 years in CA, 3 years in HI without a front plate. I've parked in downtown Honolulu, DC, and San Diego. I've been pulled over a few times, not one of them specifically for plates, and never received a ticket for the original infraction, let alone plates.
I'm willing to pay the no-plate fee if it ever comes to that, but I've found a little respect goes a long way. Not running a bucket of bolts helps a little too.
