I installed most of the parts for the back half of the car today.
Gotta figure out where to mount the resiviors for the shocks still. This kit is beefy....fits very tight but it fits well. Overall I'm impressed with it. I had to grind the knuckles so the larger axles would fit. The front portion of the diff is a solid mount and the mount bosses are offset on the square tube mount. If you mount it backwards the diff won't fit. Let me know if you have specific questions, I changed so many parts today, I can't recall any other installation tips I might have on the diff. Only real complaint is that it didn't come with the drive shaft to diff flange bolts...And more annoyingly, they didn't bead blast the housing...it's a rusty mess that they simply soaked with black paint. Not that big a deal but every time something touches it rust flakes off. Big axle shafts |

Some simple instructions/tips would have helped too, but if you're experienced enough to take on a swap like this...I guess the little things are no brainers.

As for my rear end, I have a solid mounted 8.8 in the car now. Rebuilt w/ 3.55 gears which are a little too tall I think. Might go back down to a 4.10.

Dear All experts,
My name is Alex, from Malaysia, actually the Borneo side. I’ve just got a used AT GT86 to start a build. Actually my first intended mod to my build is actually shorter final drive. Due to the location I’m at, there’s like only 1 tuner who are familiar with our cars. He told me that I have to get a full kit for example all the shims, bearings, etc (not just ring and pinion) I’ve been lurking around the forum regarding final drive parts. I’ve read some posts tons of times and still do not dare to pull the trigger of getting a full rebuild kit which is meant for Supra Mk3 which is suppose to be indentical to our cars. My question is if the internals/guts for a Supra mk3 read differential is identical to our FRS/GT86? I meant not just the ring and pinions but all the spacers, shims , bearings nuts,etc.. Over here, it’s very hard to source for any parts locally being a third world country. And most parts we have to Import from overseas. So for the final drive there pinion and rings are easier to source however, the other small parts needed is a big problem. As they are just so many small parts to make a proper build. After sometime of reading in the forum and sourcing online, I’m looking at this rebuild kit from drift motion to go along with a 4.56 on an A/T 86 for my build. As for 4.56 ratio is due to my build is actually heading towards a SC kit in the future. http://www.driftmotion.com/DM-MK3-29...t-p/dm3462.htm Would this be compatible with our stock GT86/FRS carrier? Looking forward to all your experts replies. Many thanks in advance. Rgds, Alex |
