Here is the course design for the autox. This also shows where to park for the meet and autox. We will be in the big middle parking lot of Lone Star Park.

Much easier for you to ride along with an experienced driver to help get an idea of what you should be doing to improve. Generally, once you have the basics of autocrossing, the goal is to take your first run at 100%, since normally you only have 4 runs or so and only the quickest one counts (will have more runs at this event). If you try to build your runs up as you go along then you are wasting your runs and not knowing what the limits are to begin with that you need to get right up on to minimize your run time. Find your limits on the first run, giving it @100%+ and work your way down to ride the edge and minimize mistakes with the following runs. The first run is almost always the worst one anyways.

Some things to remember in autocrossing:

- look ahead to know where you are going - the car will follow your vision, you don't need to know where you are but where you are going to and where the car should be coming into it.
- try to visualuze the course as best you can. The more you have a visual map and understanding of the course layout/specifics in your head, the easier it is to place your car on course and know where it needs to be and what you need to do. Looking ahead will help you out too if you are having issues getting a clear map of the course in your head.
- walk through the course as much as you can before the event starts, will help with your course visualization.
- turn in on 'backside` of the cones, especially in a slolam, takes a little while to get this skill
- run as close as you can to the cones, even kiss the base of the cones if you can, but don't punt them or have them land outside of their box
- looking for shortest route with least lateral movement through the cones, balance of speed and minimum distance to get the time down. There can be mutliple routes, but often there is a fastest route and depending on surface conditions it can change (like say loose gravel being shifted around through the runs).
- if you a beginner and are heading into trouble, slowdown and regain control, then continue back on the proper path. Don't try to 'save' a situation unless you know what you are doing. I witnessed a Mustang Cobra run headon into a lightpole under throttle at a driving school when the driver went way off course and was see-sawing back and forth trying to save it.

You are more than welcome to ride along with me if the run/work groups line up to allow it. I haven't autocrossed in years though, so will be a little rusty at first.
