Going with white. Again.

What are you folks doing with your existing BRZ/86/FRS?

The HyperBlue BRZ was announced shortly after 2nd JDM tS was announced. I was already saving up for a BRZ at that time and was really hoping the tS would be announced in the U.S. too, but the press release we got instead was for the Series.HyperBlue.

Since I followed the 86/BRZ since it was a rumor way back in 2008 I knew for sure I would need to keep at least one super clean one for what I hope could be the rest of my life, so that it could be a souvenir of my youth. I knew for sure it would need to be a Limited Edition model. I purchased the Series.HyperBlue with this intent, and my plan was to keep it pristine, and buy a late 13 or 14 model and just mod/HPDE that.

Now I am stuck, because I can sell my Series.HyperBlue--i've posted it for sale and am getting offers of $1k over KBB Excellent Value, but am hesitating letting it go because if I'm just gonna get another twin anyways, I might as well keep mine because I know I took really great care of it.

Of course advantage of selling it, it's worth so much. Not taking tax/insurance/gas into account, I'm getting offers of essentially 96% of my original purchase price.

I'm leaning towards keeping it though.

You have a factory unique paint color, the only thing the tS offers is some overpriced mods, just go buy the bits to make the car you want unless you're sick of the color.

I'm going to attempt to sell my '16 AT privately a month or two in advance, but if it doesn't sell before the BRZ tS arrives then I'll trade it in.

I'm curious as to how the allocation process for the 500 units will work. My local dealership typically only gets 1 special edition model per year. One series blue, one hyper blue, and one series yellow. So they might not get the BRZ tS in the color I want

It depends how many BRZ's they usually sell. If they don't sell a lot they might not earn any. There's 700+ dealers so some will not get any especially when California usually gets 100-120 of the special edition cars across like 30? 40? Dealers.

If you are really interested, I suggest emailing Subaru of America by the time the pricing press release comes out. From experience, dealers will most likely not have the option of doing Sold Orders on the tS. District management would have control over this not the retailers. But if you could get your retailer to ask the district management I'm sure something could work out...

Anyone else think the "tS" edition is Subaru basically saying "tough $#!t" to stuffing a factory turbo in this chassis?

tS is also nicknamed "tatsumi's spirit" after STI's chief test driver and a Nurburgring master. At least in the Japanese models, tS models are specifically designed and tested to his specification to optimize ride and handling over power.

To be fair, nobody really knows at this point whether thats all it will offer and even then some of those items you can't do as you're suggesting which is to go out and buy them.

Some of the things he/others might plan to do, even if able to purchase the items, would be quite expensive given sourcing surcharges, taxes, shipping, installation, etc.

Apart from that, some of the included pieces are already upgrades/niceties over his current spec not the least of which are the suspension and brakes.

@Veloist you seem to have wanted a rare bird... The tS would be even rarer than your current trim. I would take stock of everything you like about the tS, figure out if you would want to have that on your series blue and then price out whether doing so would make it cost prohibitive or not.

I am very interested! I will probably email Subaru of America this week, I'm assuming I can use the contact information listed in the press release?

Our local dealership has a decent chance of getting one, but if they don't, or they get a different color than I'm looking for, I'd be more than willing to drive to one of the Seattle dealerships.

It's just more convenient for me to buy it here ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Every time I see a HyperBlue BRZ on the road other than mine I am really stunned by the color. It's really different seeing one on the road from a distance even if I own one. I only see one like every two or three months. So it feels rare. Unlike the color Yellow, The FR-S/86 never got a HyperBlue or equivalent color which makes it so much more unique. Then again, they made the Crosstrek in this color so it's not totally special...just unique. And yeah, to me the HyperBlue does get a little tiring.

However, I don't think I can call the tS unique in the same way of the HyperBlue BRZ. Normal people won't even see the difference between that and a modded BRZ/FR-S/86. But when I started saving up when I was 19, I told myself "Ok, I am buying a White, Special Edition FR-S/BRZ when one comes out." White because it was my first color choice when the car first came out. Special Edition for the enhanced novelty of being a garage queen. The tS is the car I visualized owning and that's what I value the most. I would regret it if I didn't buy it.

Anyways, I am getting the tS for sure whether I keep the HyperBlue or not. I own my HyperBlue BRZ and sacrificed a lot of summer vacations and toys (bikes, cameras, musical instruments) for it, so I am considering keeping it as my daily driver/HPDE car since I'm not buying the tS for those reasons.

Here's what I said 2 Years Ago when the 2nd tS was announced:

From a potential buyer thread (made up some pretty ridiculous payment numbers ):

And I was of the thinking that little 't' = small turbo and big 'S' = massive supercharger. I'm cancelling my order and waiting until 2019 when a "faster", "slicker" 4 door FRS/GT86/BRZee is released.. in halo orange with a over sprayed white engine bay. Can't wait!
