Scion 2 year plan & First oil change

The scheduled first oil change is 7,500. Most of us would like to do the first fluid swap around 500 miles.

Anyone get their dealer to do the first oil change under the 2 year service plan or did you have to pay?

I think if its anything similar to BMW's maintenance plan, you would probably pay for the service. Usually these plans cover only scheduled maintenance, not the the stuff in between.

But honestly, I haven't read through the service boost thing yet.

Is it easy to change the oil ourselves vs dealer on these cars?

I am a service writer at a Toyota dealership and if you would like your first service early all you have to do is show up and request it. There should NOT be any charge. You just have to understand the service is for 2 years/ 25k miles ( which ever comes first a total of 5 services based on toyotas recommended maintenence). I have had my car for a week now and have almost 500 miles on it looking into when i should do the service bc i have never had to worry about a new car break in. Hope this help

I work for Toyota too..In a different region. Our region is only giving 3 services. 7.5k/15k/22.5k. Is it different it different down there?

I had my oil changed at 1300 miles. I went paid for it out of pocket. I figure I'll bring it back at 7500 miles and have the oil changed/tires rotated on Toyota's dime.

My dealer told me regular service schedule only (every 5k) when I tried to get them to change it, so I did it myself.

I picked up the filter at subaru for $8, the crush washer for $1.50 and got some mobile 1 0-20w.

The change was very simple, but you need the proper tools for it. Ramps, and a torque wrench being the "rarer" of the tools (common if you like to tinker, but most car owners don't own these). It took me about 30 minutes and the hardest part was taking the oil filter off (it's really on tight from the factory).

Thats strange, is Central VA considered a diff region? My dealer does OCIs of 5k, not 7.5k.

All of VA is in the same region. Toyota released a bulletin about the 7.5k interval for the FR-S. I'll try to scan and upload it. Scion service boost will only cover the 3 services. I believe your dealer has the lifetime oil changes? Maybe that's how they're doing the 5k services...our dealership does the lifetime as well but were strict on the 7.5k interval.

I think the full TOYOTA car line has moved to fully synthetic oils. They now require oil change every 10k miles, with a 5k-mile non-oil-changing service. That's why the offer is 25k/5 services. While for the FRS, it still follows SUBARU's 7.5k-mile-service convention.

According to my interpretation of the service book, you get first 3 services (corresponding to 7.5k/15k/22.5k or 1 year and 10.5 month) free for the FR-S.

I was finally able to look at my national history that shows what they will cover oil change wise.
http://ddcp.toyota.com/CP2/template/homeTemplate.faces
It is 3 services at 7.5k 15k and 22.5k.
I wish my dealer had life time oil changes, I work in service and still have to pay almost full pop for my services

Does anybody know whether I can just get the filter and oil from the dealer and do it myself instead of them doing it? It'll be even better if they can just give me 3 oil filters and the oils upfront and call it a day.

I agree. I don't want my fr-s in the hands of greasy little techs itching to do some sideways action in MY sports car. That's for me to do... Sucks when you can't trust people...

It's to cut down on warranty claims and for individuals to build a rapport with the dealerships. Build a rapport, continue bringing the car in for maintenance and purchase of new vehicles. The only real 'maintenance' that is done is three oil changes--or a $150 value.

It has little to do with the goodness of their hearts.

I think Gen meant:

- reduce warranty claims
- keep people coming to the dealer to sell new cars
