Dunno i just think the look is silly, its my opinion oh well. As for stretching for the sake of drifting your reasoning seems to be oxymoronic. If you have an underpowered car you would prefer to have a smaller contact patch so traction is easier to break, therefore the argument that a stretch "flattens" out the tire tread would defeat the desired outcome for a drifter...

I think the only reason tire stretch even started in the import world was to help prevent tire rub, and someone somewhere just explained that it made it easier to drift so they didnt have to explain that they bought wheels a little too big for their car.

Also if this is such a huge drifting style, then why stretch the fronts...once again its a style where form > function...kinda like an impala on 13" daytons.

I'm sorry for the topic derail, but there's no way someone will convince me that tire stretching is a performance modification intended to help drift car setups. If that was the case every professionally set up drfit car would have stretched tires...

i also stated sidewall stiffness and adding additional pressure for the rear.. also stated that a mild stretch would allow for a flatter contact patch. 195 on a 9j is not a mild stretch.

does stretch look cool? some people love it, some people hate it.
is there a function for stretch, albeit minor stretch? yes. ask time attack car owners.... like sun's cyber evo that dominated time attack.
..and ask drifters... gives a more predictable breaking point.. i enjoyed my ae more with stretch than when i had 195s on 7.5s

there will always be the people that straight hate on stretch... and it's usually blind hate. it has its places and uses.

Everyone spouts off the same thing about the Cyber Evo, but in reality they went to a larger tire on the same rims to better compete with the Sierra Sierra EVO. So no, they are not using stretched tires anymore. Here is the article:
