The inquiry was specific to the WRX, and HID lights in for light housings in general. Still, if you are taking your car in I will be very interested in how your set-up works out. Thanks!

Thanks in advance!
I used the slim digital ballasts for the fog lights, the WRX had a lot of space in the bumper and I actually re-used one of the mounting holes for the light housing, along with the supplied 3M double sided tape, it was very secure

With any housing intended for halogen bulbs WITHOUT a factory projector, you will experience some glare simply because that's the way the housing is, but with the FR-S and BRZ headlights, they have a factory projector that helps with a majority of the road glare.

These are all 35w kits, when compared to the factory bulbs which are 55w/65w usually, these are brighter with half the power.

edit: Here's a picture of the ballast mounted, very secure, doesn't move or bounce around at all

Very true, even Lexus cars in japan have had specific well designed HID fogs just to avoid this problem. But as you can imagine factory HID fogs are crazy expensive

Lexus IS factory LED fogs .. almost $1200.00 +

Factory IS350 HID kit .... $2200.00 !

I was wondering, do you guys even know what the yellow lights/lenses mean? It does actually have a racing background.

In case you didn't know, yellow lights or lenses usually donates a car of a lower glass. Think GT2 and GT3 for example. Ferrari will run 458's in both classes but the GT3 cars will have yellow headlights to show the difference.

I always wonder if people know what this means. Especially when I see them on honda civics and such.

I'm sure most people don't refer to yellow lights to racing history but a lot of people simply like the look of white light for the headlights and yellow for the fog lights, like the GS400's, IS300's, and other vehicles that have them stock from the factory

There's a reason behind everything, there's no real reason why people do anything to their cars other than the fact that it's their personal style and they like it, so if they want purple fog lights, let them understand that it doesn't produce much usable light but if they like it, then go ahead, if they wanted 20" wheels on their car, let them know they're gonna look like a clown car and get horrible gas mileage, but if they ultimately want to do it, no one is going to stop them, there's no written rule book on how to modify a car unless you're trying to build after a model vehicle

I didn't know that, and that is not why I wanted yellow fog lights. My interest stems from obtaining improved lighting conditions in poor weather conditions. My reasons have nothing to do with racing.

I didn't post my comments to say "this is wrong or this is right" sort of thing. You're completely correct! There is no wrong or right way to mod your own car. It's yours after all.

I just wondered if you guys actually knew what it was for. And what your sort of telling the world around you with these colour choices. Yeah its not going to matter to 99.9% of the people out there and it doesn't make a difference in everyday traffic.

But whenever I see this on the road, I just wonder if people really know what it means. After all, they are telling people (in racing terms) that they are in fact slower then others. Thats what it tells me anyway.

It's all in the symbolism.

Despite LeMans using colour for classification, it is not the origin of yellow fog lights, nor a very common use classification method in most racing series that I am aware of.

Just because some people use them for classification in that way doesn't mean that's where it's background lies or where it's origins are based.

Yellow provides better visibility in fog/rain, which is the reason that road cars typically get yellow lighting from manufacturers. As for people doing it on their cars, I'm assuming it is mostly because they like the look.

Looking for symbolism in something like yellow lights is a bit odd, in my opinion, especially since they've been used in many other forms on road cars dating back to the early 20th century from the factory.

personally i use xentecs hid kits (mine still work from 08 on my IS300)
as far as going with 3ks in the fogs if you have the time and know how i would try to swap projectors in there (es300 or is300) the actual lens on the projector is yellow so you could still use a halogen bulb (or HID if you want)

I have installed HID on my low beam and very impressed by the extra light. It is really great. I drive through heavy fog on a regular basis sometimes with visibility of just a couple feet. Now I am going to have some more penetrating fog lights.

I agree with what you've said but I don't think that applies to headlights or fogs. Sure, if they want a ridiculous bodykit, huge wing, and 20" wheels, then let them have it. Assuming they don't break and fall off when driving, they aren't directly affecting or endangering other drivers on the road like improper lights can.

The stock fog housings aren't designed for HID use and produces a lot of glare to other cars, which makes it very hard to see the road. I think it's a very selfish thing to do, putting others at risk for the sake of your own personal preference.

Yellow lamps were used in France to identify them vs white Nazi headlights:
http://karakullake.blogspot.com/2008...of-france.html

+1 on Nokya yellow bulbs. The color is a good deep yellow, but I've seen some civics with an even better tone and I don't know what bulbs they use. Luminics yellow bulbs look like old crappy halogens with a little bit of green mixed in.

Can see Nokya yellow mixing with 55w 4500k HIDs here. Note that any light in the first 1-2 parking spaces in front of me is wasted light - you can't see that close to your car because of the hood/bumper.

Older OEM Toyota fog beam patterns were REALLY crappy, lol. You could make a better lamp with a maglite and tin foil. Luckily the main beam projectors in the mr2/celica/4runner/etc were awesome.
