If it's chirping (and I'm going by experience from older cars/trucks)...

A bad throwout bearing in the manual transmission can cause chirping at idle, so can bad bearings in any of your pulleys.

There can be a intermittent chirps if you have oil on your belts/serpentine belt.

A constant chirping at idle can be a T/O bearing or any of the engine pulleys.

This is what I experienced last night after coming back from Dodgers vs Angels game ( in which dodgers won ;D) it's pretty loud. What should I do? Call scion, take it to the dealer? http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...s/fefb7143.mp4

Well the idle is very low n goes down to 400 at times. The high pitched chirp is what is loud. The video didn't capture how loud it really was but lemmie assure you it's pretty loud n high pitched.

You can hear the chirping, and it seems the RPM needle keeps bouncing up and down at idle....at least that's what I think he's talking about.

Exactly hat I'm talking about. Obviously I Hit the throttle a lil but it was to show how low the rpm would go. N along with the chirping sound.

Yeah I guess I do see it bouncing a little bit. Mine isn't really bouncing that I know of. Just dipping well below 500rpm and bouncing one time up past 1k till it comes to a normal idle. Meh, guess its just a waiting game to find out if its normal, or needs fixed.

Yeah I hope there's a fix for it. I heard of some guy on This forum that they fixed something on his engine n now he has no problem so it should be fixable. I think we need more ppl to call scion. I will be calling tomorrow.

In the video you can hear the high pitched cricket noise. I didn't see anything wrong with the rpms. However the cricket noise is not normal. There is a thread about this in the engine sub forum. A lot of people are getting this.

Yeah it wasn't dropping as much as it does from time to time, but the video was more for the noise. I just want a fix already. Idk bout everyone else but it really bugs me to hear this specially it being a new car :/

Someone needs to get a hold of a scope and trace the chirping sound.

It's too hard to tell from the video if it's a belt, a loose pulley, metal rattling from inside the motor, a tob, a leak, or something else.

Scope it and you should have an answer to your problem.

***Is it me, or does the sound go away under load?

Do people with automatics experience this chirp? If they don't, then it could be the TOB like others have said.

Yes I have the AT and have the cricket noise. It seems to be coming from the right side of the motor if you are facing it.

confirmed the idle drop today in my brz for the first time. i was at a taco bell drive thru and noticed the rpms drop to about 400 then bounce up to 900...it then did it again but dropped to about 500 and jumped up a few then leveled out. the a/c was running with the fan on the lowest setting.

ill mention it at my first oil change or take it in if it keeps happening

This is different.

Your car wanted you to get away from Taco Bell...

(it's sad when you're tired enough to crack up IRL at your own jokes....)

I'm at ~250 miles on the FRS and I've seen the idle rpm drop from ~750 to 500. At 500 it shakes a bit (the shifter) and almost sounds like its about to stall

They are also tracking my car tomorrow and Sunday to get full engine read outs for future FR-S owners. So as of Monday any of you experiencing this problem will have a fix, and a quick one at that.

I have not had my car for a month now because of this but I can tell you that as long as I know that future owners will not experience these problems it was well worth it. Good luck to everyone who has had this issue and if you are still experiencing this please take your cars to the dealership over the next month and your problems should be addressed a lot sooner than mine!
Any updates? Do you know if subaru is going to issue a TSB?

I get both of these often, but assumed the chirping was coming from the DI system like someone mentioned in another thread maybe?
