If that is the real answer then the footwell of the passenger seat is a better solution.
If you add the very large diameter wire required to route the lines to the rear trunk (with minimal voltage drop) you will probably be WORSE off weight wise than leaving it where it is and getting a Braille racing battery.

The battery is right on the longitudinal center of gravity of the car, moving it aft will net less benefit than if it was way up front like in many other cars. If this was a Mustang with the battery all the way up front (the older Mustangs) then it makes sense and even Camaros moved the battery into the trunk for the Gen 5 cars.
But this car would benefit from a lightweight battery more than adding more weight in cabling to the car to shift 1% of its weight off the COG (with a longer moment arm) into the trunk. Remember that this car was built around PERFECT balance. There was no compromise for balance with this car, it was built to have a very low COG and perfect balance and to be a driver's car- in that order. 50/50 balance is not necessarily perfect balance. Moving around weight too much may not yield the result you are looking for then you'll be chasing around or driving around a problem you created. |

Since it's been a few years and you live in a reasonably hot climate, how is this battery still treating you? I've been told by people who have lived in Vegas all their lives that due to the heat, I'll be changing batteries every two years no matter what, which makes me a little leery about dropping $190 on a battery.

whats the biggest battery anyone has fit? looking for something larger like a PC1500DT.
http://www.batterymart.com/p-odyssey...t-battery.html sizes seem almost the same. I don't drive the car very much, and I want a longer lasting higher reserve battery. I don't mind the extra weight. |

So, you did this almost 2 years ago...are you still running it? If not, how long did it last and did you think it was worth it? |

In a perfect world yes. Google search electrical fires.

If you remote mount the battery in the trunk, then you need a "circuit breaker" (fuse) large enough to still crank the starter (~100 Amps). 100 Amps is easily enough to start a fire without blowing your fuse. Same thing in a house. Circuit breakers are designed to stop a "hard short". There is nothing that says a fire cannot start in your house (due to a "soft" short) at less than 15 Amps (typical circuit breaker trip limit). But you are correct that if an accident were to cut the lines, it would likely blow the fuse, but not guaranteed. An AC circuit breaker can still deliver ~1800 watts to whatever load before tripping. They are mostly there to keep from delivering so much current that the wires in the walls begin to heat.

No one has mentioned it so i will...I put a BatteryTender battery in....$150...Weighs about 2.5lbs Lithium...Works fine with radio and everything but just don't run while car is off. Have had it about a year. Went on vacation for 2 weeks, came bacj and wouldn't start or take a charge. It's under warrenty though. AZ is hard on batteries in the first place so it's not surprising.

At that price, it sounds like your running a model designed for a smaller motorcycle. I do not think Battery Tender even manufactures automotive batteries. |
