Convertible
Hey everyone. Don't know if you've all seen this yet, but it looks like they might be rolling out a convertible version of the FR-S soon. Car & Driver says it could be here by the end of 2013/early 2014. I don't normally like convertibles over coupes, but these renders make an FR-S roadster look very nice. Maybe it'll win over some more Miata owners haha.
What do you think? Would anybody be willing to wait for a convertible? http://www.caranddriver.com/news/201...-rendered-news |

definately looks nice, as long as they can keep the weight down (possibly boost the ponies), then I think it'll sell well

In a car like this, you lose the roof, you majorly compromise the rigidity of the frame, unless you increase the weight, and then you have to increase the power of the motor or the damn thing won't be able to get out of its own way.
The Toyota Solara is a prime example when good intentions with a convertible can go horribly wrong. |

OK, admittedly, I didn't read the article just judge by the photos. The photoshop above doesn't look like ther are any seats there unless its under the rollbar.
If you keep the seats, you are losing the trunk, which would knock MomHawk out of the running (she needs storage for work). The article goes into a lot of other potential Toyota variants as well, and includes this unfortunate confirmation of what we have heard: "Roof or not, we’ve learned that no Scion FR-S will get a turbocharger. yea I was hoping subaru would take the reigns on the FI route anyways, as they are more familiar with boosting this engine type

The way I see it, if Scion/Toyota isn't getting a Turbo neither is the BRZ. That's probably why they showed the STI concept without any FI.

Yeah, now that I think about it, you may be right. Still, you know the aftermarket will make a killing selling FI kits.

That's what I got out of it. "No turborcharger" doesn't mean no supercharger.
I also don't think they need to come out with another model, just a factory kit. Like Comptech did with the S2000, where you could have it installed at the factory and it doesn't affect the warranty. |
