I was on track once during night time, due most of day time being reserved and still wishing to have few goes that day. Even though it had few street-ish lights here and there, track wasn't lighted very evenly in most important points. Had to put in more safety margin, as for example not always i could reliably see when/where best braking points and such .. i guess such light bar could have helped. Then again it was just one occasion, not frequent enough to warrant purchase/modification work, having other more prioritized mods still left to do. I'll keep in mind this though, as another possible mod for future.

I think mounting it lower behind the grille would be awesome. Subtle yet functional. Great for one of those "hey watch this" moments.
In front of the grille it actually looks "ok" for having a light bar mounted to your front bumper. Could be a lot worse I suppose.

I autocross regularly, and do the occasional track day as well, so I don't want to do anything that might hurt cooling. The lights weren't really meant to be a fashion statement, but more of a functional upgrade. Still, I think it maybe didn't look as good as I had pictured in my head. There won't be any moving it to a different location, maybe a light tint. Other than that I will either decide I like it as is, or remove it. |

Mitch: what do you think if instead of tinting, that may hurt it's primary function of providing more light when needed, make some dark (black?) cover for it, with ornament similar to grill patern? This way it will blend in more with grill, maybe will become more legal in eyes of traffic cops, and light won't be reduced?
P.S. Also, isn't rad narrower, then grill gap? How about adding two shorter bars vertically on sides of grill? (idea stems from some TRD decorative inserts there, that also reduced grill width). |

Some of the old cannonball cars (the real ones, not the movie cars) had impressive lighting as well, and I figured it would maybe be a contemporary version of that. |

here is a night pic with the light bar on.
it is very bright, and difficult to get a good picture, as it washes out the rest of the frame. it even yellows out the stock headlights, which are pretty bright themselves! |

I didn't go through all the comments yet but if you don't like its current position, I think you can get away with putting it behind the grill. It'll position it a bit lower so it won't blind people as easy too. It shouldn't block too much light either, and even if it does those things are bright. The only problems I see from mounting. But it's a lot more stealth and less ricey if you think that.
And I'd also do a quick test if you do change the placement to see if it has any effect on the radiator. EDIT: Facesmack, literally just scrolled up. Ignore comment. Completely throwing this out there if you had never thought of this: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69354 Mesh grill and mount behind but without lowering the position. I'm sure there's many different kinds of mesh that will let light through. |
