TRD Parts

Hi all, i said last week i would update you folks on the availability of TRD parts aftermarket.

I've now met the guy i was talking about last week and i should have a catalogue and pricing guide by the end of next week. These parts are not dealer supplied nor fitted so factory warranty will not apply to any non genuine supplied aftermarket part nor any other genuine parts potentially damaged by them.

Also, i found out that once you fit the full TRD kit - the rear bumper needs to be adjusted to fit the rear skirt - this is a permanent adjustment and cannot be turned back to factory standard without replacing the rear bumper.

More news next week.

That's right you have to chop some of it for the fairing to fit on.

Just FYI, Maybe keep it to one thread.

did I read right in your post? Even TRD parts will not be covered under the factory warranty?

The way I read it, TRD parts aren't covered by factory warranty because they were bought from the dealer that you got the car from.

No, it's a bit tricky this factory vs aftermarket TRD stuff because they essentially come form the same manufacturer in Japan (Toyota)

If the TRD part is supplied through the manufacturer - distributor - dealer network and is fitted by an authorized dealer it will have factory warranty.

If the TRD part is supplied from the manufacturer - direct to aftermarket wholesaler then sold aftermarket (as in not via the authorized network channels) then the only warranty it carries will be the warranty given by the 3rd party supplier/installer.

The general rule of thumb when you're dealing with aftermarket vs factory parts is:

Any aftermarket parts fitted to a vehicle will have no factory warranty and any factory warranted part that comes into contact with the aftermarket part and is damaged by the aftermarket part is also not covered by factory warranty.

P.S. I tried to find my old thread but got caught up with other customers and couldn't find it again when i looked later.

Cool thanks for that, I never realized that everything the part touched gets void as well
I'm not sure how new you are to forums, by to search for threads you created, you open your profile (by cliking on your name) then you go to statistics, and show threads by user

You're welcome mate. It doesn't necessarily void it on contact, voids if the aftermarket part damages the factory part. And,thx for lettin me know about the search function - I was looking for a search bar and couldn't find it lol.

Bad news.....

I just test drove the 86 GTS. When I rocked up, there was about 10 toyota staff standing around the 86 going over the car with a fine tooth comb. There was one specialist doing the talking.

Anyway, i was told no TRD parts will be available from Toyota Australia. No factory warranty for any TRD parts fitted.

Doesn't mean dealerships won't supply TRD parts or warranty, but from Toyota Australia, it's a no.

Trd has already failed once here to me it makes sense. They are not engine mods so what's the worst that could happen. I say who cares we gonna mod it regardless

Call me a sceptic, but when I was at the product training they seemed very receptive to feedback. TMCA were the ones that brought it all up. I'd be shocked to find they have no interest in it now.

I'm shocked too, seems like they throwing away millions. The bloke said ADR would cost too much for every part, and no TRD Australia any more.

I hope it's crap, they got an empty TRD display in the showroom too.....

Has anyone got any TRD parts from their dealership yet? Seems strange to commit to the parts, but fail to come through with the goods.

No dealerships have access to TRD through TMCA. It's also against the franchise agreement to sell them through other means if TMCA offer them to the dealer. If however, TMCA chooses not to import them dealers may be able to sell them, but with repercussions in relation to warranty. I don't know the full ins and outs of that part.

Dealers have sold TRD parts in the past. And I don't mean for the TRD badged
models.
There was a NSW (Penrith I think?) selling TRD parts for a few years. Not sure if they still do, I don't have a toyota at present. But no, it wasn't a TMCA thing. And it wasn't cheap :P

I was saying to m0nty in a PM that Toyota Aust went about the whole TRD thing the wrong way.

They had the Aurion, which was a nice car. was a little tame and badly marketed it.

then they had the TRD hilux, when i heard this was coming i got a lil excited.. Supercharged V6..
Being a lux owner my ears pricked up.
Then i saw it.. Jacked up, auto only..
it was far from a sports ute. was a show pony that had no real use.
was too high and totally useless for going around corners.
was fairly useless as an offroad truck.
The X-Runner in the states would have been a better way to go, use the S/C 4.0l v6, lower it, sorted suspension, decent looks.. would have sold heaps! I would have traded my lux in for a new one!
I just don't think Toyota did their market research right, you dont see bogans driving around in 4wd, auto, jacked up commo utes..

Still easier and cheaper to just order direct from Japan and get Streeter or Hayatonka to ship it over.

I agree with the TRD Hilux being nothing but show... The SR5 shat all over the TRD hilux in every way.... And the TRD only being auto... What Jerks, it didnt stand a chance!!!! SR5 is an awesome 4x4 IMO...... But anyway.....

I don't know how much 4WDing you do in the Melbourne CBD, but the TRD hilux is both very capable off road, and sold very well. The Bilstein suspension is one of the most desired setup for Hilux's and Prado's, which you would know if you looked to change your suspension in your Toorack tractor. Never driven an auto off road? They leave manuals for dead. Why wouldn't you make a special edition for your top selling model?

The TRD Aurion on the other hand.......

Yeah, I know of a Lexus Dealership that sells aftermarket parts for the IS-F, and provides warranty for those parts fitted too. But just seems a bit crazy not providing an aftermarket service for a cult car. Seems that they don't want the liability to me.
