Is it fast?

So I have I question for you guys.

Is it fast?

This is basically the question I keep getting asked by people who see the car for the first time. Some of these people are just passer byers , and some of them drive cars that are clearly faster than ours (Camaros, Z's, G's, etc), on a straight at least.

So how would you guys respond to this question because all I keep saying to them is that "it's fast enough."

Fast? not so much in stock form.
Fun to drive? Yes, probably at the top of a long list.

Fast? No.

Quick? Yes.
(The person who asked the question usually just nods at this point, utterly confused.)

At times, I do want to tell them the awesomeness that is this car.
But I'm a humble guy and I don't want to make them feel bad that they don't have one.

Just saying.

While stopped at a light, I had a young kid in a 4th-gen Camaro ask me my horsepower. Even when I told him 200hp, he grinned and said he "bets it could haul." I responded "I dunno. Haven't tried yet; it's still new." Seems at very least he understood the significance of low weight for power demands.

My standard answer is a variant of pyro's:

Not the fastest, but fun as hell to drive.

It's actually very fast because I"m not stomping on the brakes at every turn. This car reminds me a bit of a funny video I watched on You Tube a few years ago. It was a camera mounted on a supercharged Lotus Elise that was racing on a track in Great Britian. In the video the Elise would be overpowered by a Vette by like one or two hundred yards in the straights. Then the funny things was that the Elise driver would easily over take the Vette in the corners. That video clearly showed the difference between competing philosophies.

Anyway, it doesn't matter how fast my car is. What I like is it is ORANGE and awesome looking!

I would say yes. Why?

Because Fast = Top speed to me. And it tops out around 170mph.

If they ask if it was Quick, then I would say "it depends on your definition of quick". AutoX it would be quick. Drag strip...not quick.

Hard to answer without knowing what the person is asking is used to driving.

Compared to a Prius or a Nissan Versa? Heck yes it will feel fast..

Compared to a Mustang GT? It won't....

I think the person above said it best. The car is quick and nimble...

Another way to confuse the power-hungry queries is to respond by saying "the car isn't about power, it's about balance". This will get seriously contorted face expressions from the guys with supercharged 600+HP Mustangs with stock brakes.

This is exactly why I look forward to getting my FR-S and taking it to the weekly local cruise-in. There are nothing but 50-something corvette owners and hot rod lovers there. Pretty to look at, but the youngest member of that group is in his late 30s.

Why not just say, no? If anything, it sounds more mature to say it's slow, I would respect someone saying the car is slower than it is than trying to compensate the lack of quickness with other stuff.

It's like someone asking you if your girlfriend is hot, and you responding, she's a good cook.
