K&N Drop-In Filter (Quick Impressions)

Good morning.

Last night I received the K&N Drop-In Filter via UPS for my BRZ right from K&N’s web site for about $50 shipped and installed it without issue.

In this quick post, I am not going to get into the benefits of an aftermarket filter, but rather provide some quick initial impressions.

Pros

• RPM’s Rev more freely
• Power band ‘feels’ smoothed out
• Acceleration is achieved quicker
• A ‘slight’ increase in suction sound
• Quality Product
• Retains the BRZ Excitement and Giggle Factor
• Worth the $50 Spent

Cons

• None

Mine didn't do any of these things.

Mine came in on Monday, I just need to go down to the store and pick it up. Although, I may wait until the engine is 100% broken in so I can drive the car hard back to back with the stock vs. K&N

All we need now is some scientific evidence to prove these claims! To the lab!

Magic filter indeed! Didn't Perrin dyno the car with and without a filter and there was no difference? lol

I've owned enough cars to advise that what I posted is accurate. Nowhere did I mention any HP increase. I doubt there was any.

Next week I'll be installing and reviewing Accelerate Performance's Intake and Exhaust Systems. Therefore the stock system + K&N will be removed in less than a week's time.

Stay tuned.

If it truly does sound better, I'll bite. Waiting for more impressions. If you could expand upon that I'd like to know.

Thx.

in most cases the stock air box with a good filter and some cold air feed is the best solution as opposed to an open pod type filter that a lot of tuners opt for.

The only think you will "feel" after installing a cotton gauze/oil filter like the K&N or TuRD is a lighter wallet.

If you want a giant metallic dildo under your hood, go the extra step and install a cold air intake.

Can you explain how you think the car accelerates quicker if there wasn't a power increase?

Back to back 1/4 mile times in similar conditions with and without the filter, duh.

Just placebo effect. I usually replace the filter with a ITG foam one at the first service interval just so I don't need to change it again at the next ones.

It could be a heavier wallet when you don't have to replace your paper filter every 15k miles. I would've waited 'til 15k and replaced it with the K&N, then keep it for the life of the car. It should pay for itself after 45k. Power gains, though? Doubtful.

Hope you guys buying this filter like dust going into your engine, and reduced filtering capacity. Have a nice day.

Do yourselves a favor and use the Apexi filter over this because it's a dry element and costs the same or less.
