Hmm, it doesn't look much bigger/bulkier then stock as i feared, that's good. Could have been lower though, as cheap way to shorten gear throws

A shift nob will not shorten throws.

HunterGreene: for example TRD knob has deeper thread and thus knob sits lower then stock. As result overall gearshift lever length is shorter, and even if slightly, but it travels less when switching gears, no? Or on other end of spectrum, those very long "sword hilt" knobs .. the very top travels much longer for same angular travel at gear switch, or i am imagining things?

They're moving through the same angle, which is the true throw. Its just a longer or shorter arc based on how long or short the knob is. True short throws are made by shrinking the angle which you have to travel in order to make a shift.

But to driver it's gearshift lever tip travel distance, that matters subjectively shifting feel wise not angle no matter what short throw is or isn't by official definition, isn't it?

Subjectively, you are correct. It would appear to be shorter. Technically, you are incorrect. Your shifting would "Feel" shorter without actually being shorter. If your shift knob was shorter than stock, it would actually take more work to shift as well. Basic properties of a lever.

Short throw shifter kits do not change the length of the shifter as much as the shorten the angle that you must move through between gears. If you sit in an econobox with a manual and move the shifter through the gears and then sit in your car and shift through the gears, you will get my meaning. Our cars already have a relatively small angle of shift.
