Stealthbox for 2013 Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ

Hey guys,

I have been in contact with JL Audio and they are now interested in getting one of our cars in to do some test fitting.

If anyone in the Miramar, FL area is interested please contact Jose B Rodriguez by email: technical@jlaudio.com

You can mention Ron from ft86club.com as a reference.

Thanks!

If you go through with it, push for an 8" enclosure!

I run an 8" in my Integra also, it would be my preference.

The thing is the sub is somewhat pointless in this car since you could just run good 8" subs in the doors.. but my preference would be 6.5-7" mid bass drivers in the door, 4"/1" in the dash and one 8" long excursion or 10" sub in the trunk..

That was my original plan with the doors. Do they seem sturdy enough to handle the bass? I was thinking something like this would be more than sufficient: http://www.jlaudio.com/car-audio-evo...id-bass-driver

Depends on how much bass and how you prep the door. CLD tiles, CCF/MLV setup should help out with bass response a lot in the doors. But still I wouldn't want anything too low in the doors if I went with a more SQ setup.

I'd probably run a Morel or HAT front stage but I really don't want to dump the money into this car's audio like I have in other cars.

Definitely Morel. I really like the idea of running 8s or 10s in the trunk and 6.5/3.5/1s up front.

The doors don't feel too sturdy (stock). I'd honestly worry about bass response and losing mid fill up front... especially with how horrible the rear speakers are.

I love Morels.. but the HATs for the money are hard to beat IMO.. that's why I'm currently running them instead of Morel.

I got an amazing deal (almost 50% off retail) on my set, which is why i went with the Morels, but yeah, I agree.

Keep us posted! Push for the 8" if they ask, the 10" looks ridiculous shoved in the trunk and just isn't necessary.

My bad, I assumed the guy I was talking to would have mentioned that they already had someone coming in.

Also, did a search here before even contacting JL and didn't find the term stealthbox.

Push for the 8"!! And if you would update us with any information we would all really appreciate it!

Those of you who have the FRS already, will a 12" sub and box fit in the trunk? I have a 12" laying around that I'd like to use. I saw a FRS at the dealership maybe a month ago but forgot to take measurements. Thanks.

A 12 will almost definitely not fit in there, unless you build up a false floor in the trunk and mount it facing up or down.

I put two 10s in there, just to see what it looked like, and ended up keeping them. Small sealed box all the way across the back of the trunk, and it doesn't look too bad at all.

I love 8s... I had 3 8w6s wired in series/parallel in one of my last cars, but I felt like going with the 10s this time.

By the way, the stock speakers in the BRZ doors are definitely NOT 8". They are 6.5s, and the mounting panels are riveted on.

Explains the horrible low end SQ.. probably pushing those little 6.5s way too hard to produce the bass that's coming out of them :P

You planning on going soft dome or hard for the tweets? I prefer soft but I'm not sure how they will sound in the OEM placement.. I prefer soft domes more directly aimed and hard if they can't be aimed at me.

Just a quick update: Went to JL Audio today and we should be dropping of the car next week. They will try out diff setups to see what works best. They might do a full system and progress will be up on JL Audio facebook.
