Well... average tax paid in Quebec is a little over 4-5% higher. Looking at the transfer payments quebec gets (more then any other province in Canada) I would say it's equal. Not to mention housing is MUCH more affordable, insurance is cheap, TUITION...

Your totally wrong on the income taxes....
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/fq/txrts-eng.html

Assuming you make around $75k then in Ontario you pay about 30% income tax (Between provincial and federal).

If you make $75K in Quebec you pay 41%.

Transfer payments is a whole other argument that I agree with you guys on but your missing the fact that Quebec has outrageously high income tax. All of my Doctor friends got educated at McGill and then ran for Ontario or the US.

That being said, Montreal is a great place to visit. Awesome concerts, beautiful women, crazy parties and tons to do. I just wouldn't want to live there.

Can't comment on doctors, but friends who have moved to Quebec claim to only pay another 2000 or so in additional taxes. Just finding a basic tax calculator online shows a difference of 5k (assuming no tax RRSP, tfsa, etc.).

But +1 on Montreal Students in Quebec cause a riot when they party

The calculator you linked above is not correct. The official webpage I linked will give you accurate income tax calculations 100% of the time.

As soon as you make over $40000 flee quebec.

My current premium on my 2001 Honda Prelude with liability is $1130 every 6 months with Geico.

I just got a quote from Geico online on an FR-S, and it ended up being about $1200 every 6 months.

Doesn't sound right to me?

Montreal (North Shore) -> RBC Insurance = 1200$/year for BRZ premi"er" ... didn't mention that the car is going to have Vin Lock yet.

Male, 32, married with 2 kids. Last claim at age 16, so I'm a safe bet for them.

Live in Québec
Drive less than 10'000 km a year
1 million liability
500 deductible on collision
250 on theft/vandalism/fire

Quoted about 630$/year by "La Capitale".
(give or take 10$, don'T remember the exact amount)

I do get a rebate because of:
-my professionnal order (La Capitale gives a discount to medical technologists)
-All my stuff is insured with them, and I chose a 2 year contract instead of one
-Sherlock, witch incidently I'll only be paying 97$ for, because my insurance company pays the rest (provided I go to their selected place like "Lebeau vitre d'auto", they won't pay if I have the dealer do it)

Life is good!

I know ICBC is kinda a unique case but for those in BC mine is roughly $3K per year. I'm male, 20, first car, clear record. I know that ICBC gives a 5% discount for every year of safe driving which in my case is 4 years so I get a 20% discount.

*Edit* Also I live in Vancouver so it will be higher than you lucky northern/interior people. Oh what I would give for less traffic and open mountain roads
