If I didn't get the FR-S I would have purchased a Cooper S. I wanted lightweight, affordable, and fun. Both cars fit that bill. If you're willing to go with something else entirely like an Insight, then were you only planning on getting the FR-S for a show car? There's nothing wrong with that, but after driving it I don't think I could give it that sort of fate. It wants to be driven. It needs to be driven.

Take a deep breath and DO NOT buy an Insight. If you do that you will be screwed for years to come, instead of just now.

Just go and find your FR-S or a BRZ somewhere else. Considering it's such a joy to drive the further away the better

In the meantime write them a letter demanding to give you your deposit back and threaten them with legal action at their cost if they don't reply in 3 working days. Find a lawyer who will take over after that on a no cure no pay base.

In California ANY deposit is ALWAYS refundable before a sales transaction is completed. This is a distinction apart from a down payment which can be argued to be not refundable should a buyer not perform as agreed. A simple call to the general manager should solve this kind of problem.

CA Law for Doc fee is max capped at $55, while living in CA is expensive there are some regulations like this to protect the consumers.

I was wondering about that. I'm glad we at least have some stuff to protect us.

An Insight? Seriously? Get used to losing stoplight drags against riding mowers.

I think there are 14 or so other states that have similar regulations. Unfortunately GA is not one of them. I was going to fly to a state that did just out of principle if they would have let me change. I've always wanted to drive from CA anyways!

This is Jeremy Clarkson's Insight review - I think he really says it all. Sorry for the link to a quoted post, but it has disappeared from just about everywhere else:

I work for Newburgh Toyota- Scion in New Windsor, NY. While we are a small Scion dealership, we are trying to increase that and expand as we are moving to a new location which will have plenty of room for Scion. We are taking orders for the FR-S and have been selling quite a few iQ's as well. The delivery time on the FR-S is currently six to eight weeks and we tell this to our customers. Its all about allocations. The larger dealerships get more.. but in some cases are marking them up as well. So it comes down to patience. If you order your car from us you WILL get it.. but because of production and the dreaded "allocation" it may take longer than you would like. Sometimes to be one of the first.. means you have to wait. I'm sure next year ( when i'm ready to buy) we'll actually have a couple in the showroom that wont already belong to customers..lol. Be Patient.. it will come

i dont know what you guys are talking about - right before i got mine i was on three lists.. the funny thing is only one took a copy of my credit card but nobody took any money.
they all told me, when the BLACK one comes i will call you and u have a few hrs to buy it or i go to the next guy on the list.

maybe thats how its done here in CA, but man i feel sorry for you guys that had to drop cash for no date or bad promissess.

yea, like someone said, find another one.

the Strange thing was, in the end i found one sitting at a dealer with no buyer - and i got that one ! -- when the 3 dealers finally call me i will tell them that i pass... since i got it already.

scion is pretty cool i think. you think this is bad try to find a BRZ right now... those guys will make u angry for sure.

How many people have had an absolutely dreadful buying experience in an Apple store? Now how many have had an absolutely dreadful buying experience in a car dealer? Yup, that is the difference between corporate owned stores and private owned middle man dealers. You can thank dealer franchise laws for the way it is set up right now.

Second, my jackass of a salesman has yet to contact me, even after I've visited the dealership twice in person to straighten this whole mess out. Lastly, I go to the dealership today and I talk to the general manager and now he is saying that I won't get my car until July and that he wants to keep it in the showroom for a while so people can look at it. I'm about ready to flip out and completely give up on this dealership. I've never been more frustrated and for this being my first new car, I'm getting completely fucked over.

This car better be worth the wait because as far as buying it has gone, I would NEVER again deal with any part of scion and their continual bullshit they give me. ahhhhhhhhhh so mad right now /rant.
This is actually Scion's fault. They require the dealers to have a car in, at all times. Maybe where you are, you're getting very few in the year. Also with the salesman, he is just lazy and you should go to another dealer
