Toronto FR-S orders- Drill or no Drill on bumper

Hey guys

Just wondering for people who ordered, did you request not to drill into the bumper, and did they deny that request due laws in Ontario?

I requested it - and no my request wasn't denied. I don't understand why they would object to not drilling holes in YOUR CARS bumper.

They legally can't or what? Anyone know?

If they legally have to put a plate on the front bumper, you guys think dealers would help you install this? http://www.perrinperformance.com/brz...e-plate-holder

I doubt it though. haha.

Heres the law regarding plates in ONTARIO (i.e. ontario plated cars):

9. (3) The number plates for a motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle or a motor assisted bicycle, shall be attached to and exposed in a conspicuous position on the front and rear of the motor vehicle. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 628, s. 9 (3).

Grill or bumper = 100% fine. Front windshield = fine if your an old man driving corolla. If your a young dude driving an FRS and you get pulled over for any reason and your plate is on your windshield, expect a ticket (especially from the fu*king T. police).

If your dealer insists on drilling holes I suggest choosing another dealer.

^^ As to the Tow Hook mounted plate - I don't see why your dealer woudn't help you install. It's a simple mount to install. Just push it into the hold and screw it in.

Hi everyone,
I was just driving by Maple Toyota and Scion and they had a black FRS in the lot. I took a look at the front license plate bracket and I did not find any drilled front bumper.

It looks like the bracket is attached on the bottom end against the grill. I did not really get on my knees to look underneath but I have some pictures I quickly took of the bracket looking at it from the top. You will notice there is a reflection of the bolts against the bumber...they are not drilled into the bumper.

I did not have time for a test drive but i did sit inside and i was very impressed with the driving position. I am around 5' 10 and 190lbs and those seats were perfect. The view all around was fantastic, kind of reminded me of my old RX7. BTW the FRS at Maple is an Auto in case you want to schedule a test drive.

Thanks for the pics, they are very helpful!

Depending on the length of those plate mounting bolts, it may be a good idea to replace them with something as short as possible. If somebody backs into your car at very low speed, not even enough to damage the bumper cover or anything, the impact can push the bolts into your bumper and cause some marks. Miata owners have had to deal with this for ages.

BTW I was just at Scarborough Scion and I asked about the front bumper drilling thing. They won't be drilling any FR-S front bumpers. They are going to ask the seller if they want the bumper drilled before they do and they are also going to offer the perrin plate bracket at the dealership for sale and will also install it for you.

pretty cool

Thats good to hear. So with the offering of the perrin bracket, is that specific to that dealer only.?

Just spoke to

Henry in Parts dept. at Scarborough Scion... he has no further information.

Who exactly did you ask about the Perrin mount? Useful info, thanks in advance.

My dealer mounted the license plate holder on the grill. It blocks a bit of airflow to the radiator, but I don't think that will be a problem.

You are able to mount it in the standard position (not blocking the air flow) using the same drill holes that are drilled into the mesh area.

Just wanted to see what people have come up with as solutions to this problem.. I really dont wanna have to drill the bumper and am not a fan of the Perrin/Grimmspeed mounts.

Aznek, would you have a photo of what you mentioned? It would be really helpful?

Thanks,

When i did the PDI on my own FR-S, i drilled it into the black grille area. Going to put zip ties on the bottom part of the holder just in case it lets go.

little did i know they drill the plastic part of the grill to mount that POS onto it.. im going to go see if they're going to replace it, since i specifially told them not to and they told me they dont drill

Did you get this sorted?

I forgot to ask not to drill and they did the same as you for mounting, I just want to know now if that black plastic honeycomb can be easily and relatively cheaply replaced?
