Yay yet another waste of their website peoples time... WTF is the point of these stupid updates?

"Overseas model shown"

"Now our FT-86 II Concept - the latest in the sports tradition set by the legendary AE 86 - is no longer a concept. It's a reality."

How about you actually call it by the cars name... It's no longer a concept FFS!

And no pricing info on the website... stupid.

No specifications other then.

Toyota 86 features:
World's first 2.0 litre horizontally-opposed engine with D-4S direct and port injection technology
Choice of six-speed manual or six-speed automatic
Alloy Wheels
CoG = 460mm
53:47 Weight Distribution
The 2.0 litre, normally aspirated D-4S engine has separate twin injectors for both direct and port injection and a high compression ratio of 12.5:1. It delivers 147kW of power and generates plenty of torque over a wide range of engine speeds.

You have come to the party late. This is the point people here are trying to make. That Toyota Australia have NOT been updating the web page. That TA have NOT been keeping "things fresh and different".

Yeah but remember that whole page has been written by someone from marketing. The list of adjectives is tiresome. "legendary", "superb","advanced". Also "53:47 Weight Distribution" is a feature!! OMG!! I wish my lounge had that!!

Having said that I don't think it's as bad as this spiel from a VW dealer in Canberra regarding the Golf:

"Striking Demeanor
At a glance, you’ll recognise the classic style that has guaranteed the Golf’s iconic stature over the years. The new Golf Trendline enjoys a simple and straightforward design that reflects the sheer efficiency of German engineering at its finest. The combination of classless architecture with clear lines adds an understated elegance to the car’s body. Sharper angles and meticulous moulding highlight this lower-sitting, slightly wider new Golf’s athletic presence."

There are 4 paragraphs like that. All these words that tell me nothing.

(f**k. i must be in a cynical mood atm)

I will say it's fair to say 53:47 Weight Distribution is a feature. They worked hard at that. It is a big part of the car.

For those that work at a Toyota dealership, the 86 workshop manual went online today, including the "new car features" section. You find it in the normal place with the other manuals, via the webapp. (Secure, can only view from a dealership).

Pardon me but I beg to differ.Of course it is being promoted as a good thing; that's what marketing is all about. During it's development much was sprouted on the rumourweb about 50:50 weight distribution. I am suggesting 53:47 is what they ended up with. Also weight distribution is over rated. Just because you have x:y distribution means f**k all. It is a static measurement but I know of very few people who sit in their stationary car saying to themselves "whoooa, isn't the mass distribution great!".

""""Just because you have x:y distribution means f**k all."""""

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automob...t_distribution

It means a lot to the car. They don't just chuck an engine in and away they go. They do multiple tests on different weight distributions.

Due to the low and so far back boxer engine, 53/47 must have been optimal for it's handling.

Went in to the dealership today. They are saying release date 18th. Proper onroad pricing should be available by then.

Pardon me.I was thinking of the marketing spiel when I wrote that. I did not explain exactly what I meant. I am suggesting that weight distribution is only a very small part of what makes a car handle. No where have I seen Left/right weight distribution. What about when the driver gets in the car? L/R distribution gets thrown out the window. The only street car I have read about that takes this into account is a recent version of the Nissan GT-R. If the 86 had a distribution of 52:48 or 50:50 or 51.37/48.63 I am saying the sales blub would still call it a feature.

According to your link "For this reason, a car with "50/50" weight distribution will understeer on initial corner entry. To avoid this problem, sports and racing cars often have a more rearward weight distribution." so 53/47 would increase understeer but we have already read that this car exhibits very little understeer.

Your point is taken that weight distribution has an effect.
