I put myself in STX *pro* class... as they get scored different on a different index than standard folks... that way I lessen the controversy that will surround the classing of this thing...and since its a shakedown run anyways... I am not expecting Miracles.. just want to get a feel for the car... will have some mods done on Sat...Exhuast turndown... Rims/tires...Rear Swaybar (16mm).... Endlinks... and most likely...my 4pot brakes going on.. since I am prepping for STX for real anyways..

If I start autocrossing the FRS, I'll be picking up a set from TireRack.

Speaking to classing the car...
If it's put in CS, it will be fine unless it starts beating all the miatas, then there will be protests and they'll probably move it somewhere else (my cynicism speaking there). I would probably try to keep this in stock class if possible or one of the modest Steet Tire classes. Time will tell though.

They're stupid if they don't make the FR-S/BRZ the car to have in whatever class it'll be in.

There's going to be a lot of these, and a lot of those will gravitate toward AutoX, which would greatly help the SCCA. Unless they're stupid.

I should finally have first hand experience w/ one of these next weekend. I stand by assertion that this car is a back marker in C Stock. The RX8 and 370Z have nothing to fear when they have wide R comps on. The MSR and ZOK still get the job done. Regular MR-Ss, Skystices, and Miatae are the back markers and compare similarly to the BRZ.

The latter will annihilate the competition that is in D Stock. The soft landing is in E Stock which is running much faster than D Stock.

There is no point for SCCA to go out of it's way to favorably class a car based on someone possibly attending an event. Everyone knows ten people who have said that they go to an event for every one person who has followed thru on what they have said. Way to piss off existing club members...

That is simply not true. The intent of the SCCA classing structure is to maximize participation and membership. I am not saying it's perfect, it's far from it, but you cant please everyone (If you think you can do a better job, apply for an Advisory Committee position).

Popular cars get multiple places to play, less popular cars get mixed in with all the fodder and occasionally CAN be competitive under the right circumstances. There is a reason 30 year old civics are treated as they are, same as 20 year old miatas and 10 year old S2000s. They are popular, people like to come race them. If a car is viewed by the SEB as a critical vehicle to gain membership and event participation, they will treat it that way and make it competitive. It's up to us to show up and compete and prove them right.

I can easily see the MS-R and Z0K getting bumped to BS starting next year.

(Like 225 or 235?)

I am looking to run in the RTR Stock Class and am looking for street tire input on 7" wide wheels.

215's are probably the right choice for a 7" rim and a soft sidewall street tire. The Hankook's tread is also almost an inch wider than the stock 215's.

If I was running A6's, I would stuff 245's on the rims.

Yea that is a good point... I guess the more that I look at it that doesn't quite make sense without reorging multiple classes (again)... though AS hasn't had a whole heck of a lot of participation since the last re-org. It might make sense to bump the GXP and S2000 to AS (essentially the same Indexes).

I guess it would make more sense if the BRZ/FR-S isnt competitive in CS to take them and some of the other CS also-rans down to ES instead of bumping others out.

Yaaay for speculation

I've just mounted 235/45/17 Dunlops -- stiffer sidewall than the Kooks. I'd have preferred the 40s but they were out of stock, and this gets a couple mph more in 2nd.

BTW, we ran 255 Yoks on a 7.5 inch rim on an RTR S2000 CR.

We've got an event Saturday -- if rollover is bad I'll post again ...

TBH I think you made a wise choice with the 45s over the 40s. Here in DFW, the courses usually have me bouncing off the limiter in a 2.0T Genesis (60mph about). If its like that for your courses, good decision

Here is my oem vs Hankook, both a 215/45/17, Surprised me how much larger the tread blocks and wider setup!

1st Impressions, much more road noise and wow steering is CRISP/Responsive !!

Can't wait to hit the Autocross on them Sunday !!

I've got an identical set of rims with 245 starspecs so I'll see if I can pull off a comparison at the next event.

If you can't get proper totes in time I would recommend bringing some big trash bags to put those in. I ran the RS-3s for a season, and they pick up a ton of gravel.

What made you pick the RS-3? They didn't seem to do well for me until the tire came up to temperature, 20-30 seconds into the first run on my WRX. The BRZ will have even more trouble getting heat into those things.

Well I placed 3rd out of 4 cars, tough competition!!! ( MR2 Spyder and Miata's ) I was .6 from 2nd place, Great Racing!! I Love the RS3's , Night/Day from racing prior on stock setup! They get Very Sticky and you hear them picking up fine sand/gravel driving on them.

Out of 50 Racers, I was 24th. My brother Rocked, Stock Susp 12' STi w/ Stage 2, Hoosiers 275s took 4th Fastest Time of Day! I will get GoPro Vids up soon, STi had soo much body roll looked like airbags/hydraulics Up/Down through course. FRS Remained Very Flat, Predictable!

Here are Raw results:
http://www.axwaresystems.com/axorm/f...20test_raw.htm

Class results PAX time:
http://www.axwaresystems.com/axorm/f...20test_sum.htm

Great Time on Track w/ the FR-S! I pushed hard one section seeing if I could hold and had a nice Spin and Cone Rash down the side of the car, oops! Hope it comes off, looks horrible on White - oops!
