We are going to work on a Tomei Type 80 "kit" that will be added at checkout for those that want these diffusers to fit the Type 80. I have FT-86 SpeedFactory's Type 80 here and will be working with @jdnguyen to get everything sorted out. Installation instructions, templates, etc will all be included.

I love how it fits and looks with the TRD exhaust! The flat bottom of the tips make it look like it was a match made to be.

On his way through Dallas he got rear ended. "A true test of strength. I'm very surprised how well my rear diffuser held up after being rear ended in Dallas, TX.
After the accident I continued my trip safely to Omaha, NE and even did a track day there with zero issues! Velox, I'll be in need of another one of these!"

I will continue to do my best to update with pictures that are sent our way. We greatly appreciate them!

While I do like the non-aggressive version of this diffuser and I'm impressed by its strength, one could also argue that it therefore could have been made out of thinner aluminum sheet metal and thus be lighter. (I hope you don't mind my criticism, but I just like any mods to be as light as possible).

Do you have one of these to make that statement? They practically weigh nothing, the included toolset in your trunk weighs more than diffuser.

Adding weight to the back of the car is actually better for handling anyways.

Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate it. The unit weighs somewhere around 7 lbs, which really isn't bad considering its size. If we went thinner, some would most certainly argue that it isn't strong enough or that it is flimsy.

We did get it quoted out of carbon fiber during prototyping and even a carbon unit would have only saved us 2.5 lbs, while increasing the pricing to double it is now, not including the $16,000 in tooling.

The thickness and thus strength of the unit is subjective to each person. One persons overbuilt, is someone else's under-built. We went with what we thought would satisfy the majority of consumers and I would like to think most have been satisfied with the unit(s) so far.

True, but I don't drive around with that tool set (when it matters).
The diffusers still adds about the same weight than what the lightest legal cat-back does substract.

Glass filled epoxy laminate sheets could be a lighter, affordable alternative, but I'm not sure whether the heat radiation of the muffler would be a problem. (The guide vanes could be used to shape it, since this is not a material that can be formed cold as sheet metal can.)

I can see that most people would probably prefer a diffuser out of (thicker) aluminum sheet metal.

Just wanted to let everyone know the *aggressive* units are back in stock, so both styles should be in stock and available. As are the rear diff/suspension covers and the OEM exhaust cover . We are working on coming up with a Type 80 kit that will be added at checkout for those customers as well. I would expect something around the first of the year (hopeful thinking).

I've spent the past few weekends doing some further testing to continually prove our CFD does in fact translate to real world results. We have had some warranted skepticism of if the air is staying attached to the rear up-turned lip that has become a staple for our diffusers. Our CFD showed that it does stay attached but CFD is just a tool, a simulation that can deviate from real world results. This applies to wind tunnels as well, can't stress that real world results can deviate from wind tunnel testing as well!

So what did we come up with? We decided we could tuft test the diffuser on an open stretch of road. We are in the process of developing an educational video detailing what we found. Below is a preliminary picture of the diffuser with the tufts attached. This was actually a lot of fun, more fun than I was anticipating, but also quite time consuming.

Looking forward to posting the video in a few weeks when I find time to finish it up .

Any chance the mount point at the swaybar could be moved ~6-8mm toward the rear of the car without much trouble? If so, the bolt could be swapped for a threaded rod and a nut for the swaybar mount (the thickness of which would determine how far back from current this would be mounted,0 and a second nut for the diffuser, making this one heck of a lot easier to take on/off the car.

Why would you do that? I would because it's not legal when I AutoX

Yes, I could see this being done fairly easily. The entire diffuser would sit back that 6-8mm, but 1/4-5/16" really isn't that far back. I would then install the rivet nuts in the plastic behind the rear wheels that 1/4"-5/16" more rearward, those (2) points should line up great then. The rear middle most holes may have enough play to not need any modification at all to fit. If they do, I would slot that hole ever so slightly till it all bolts together.

Honestly, I see no issues with an install in this fashion .

This was a lot of fun but fairly time consuming. Glad we did it though.
