While not on the same level of destruction as the others, I managed to crack my first rotor this weekend. It only took about 16 track days, countless autocross events, and over a year of daily driving. Kind of funny that it happened my first ever session with Hoosiers.

Excellent work. Brakes are wear items and glad to know those brakes held up to your level of abuse in such a long period of time.

How many mm were these worn down?

Has anyone used some brake ducts or GT3 brake cooling scoops to see if the help with the inside wear?

It will help. Ducting will prolong the life of the brake pads, but not the wear of the rotor. Rotor life is the same. With ducting, you thermal cycle your brakes at a higher rate than without ducting. Ducting is great for track use, but not so good for daily use or cold days. Race pads will wear faster if used in the incorrect operating temperature range, which also include driving in cold weather conditions and constantly keeping the average brake temperature below optimal operating temperature of your brake pads.

Mike, I was referring to the uneven inside vs outside wear on your rotors on the first post. I've not seen such a variance before and you mentioned cooling might make the wear more even.

Also, is the pad wear uneven?

Mine have very uneven wear from heat. Pad wear is slightly uneven but not that uneven (less than 1mm difference).

David here...

We have uneven rotor wear on the inside vs. outside. We wore the J-hooks until they disappeared on the inside. Pad wear on this car was relatively similar with slightly additional wear on the inside.

On the boosted S2000, there is significant wear on the inner pad vs. the outer one. Rotor has a little more wear on the inside vs. outside.

Even then, the brake system lasts longer than factory for our application and we noticed a significant amount of life in our brake pads compared to stock calipers/rotors. For us, the cost of BBK is justified.

Sorry David ...

So, I'm just trying to understand if cooling would even out the wear. I'm sensing the question is moot if you replace the rotors slightly sooner than you guys pushed yours.

The uneven wear came to my attention mainly because I would typically use the slot/j-hook wear on the outside as a visual clue for when to replace the rotors.

With 2 piece rotors, I've noticed that cracking the inside is more common than the outside. This may be just coincidence, but I habitually check both inside and outside surfaces on cars with 2 piece rotors now.

How cooling affects wear varies by setup. E.g. if you're overcooling the brakes, it may increase wear, whereas if you're bringing the brakes down from borderline overheating to ideal temperature range for the pads, then it may decrease wear.

The *best* way to figure this out is to use temp strips on the caliper, and temp paint on the rotors.

Of the pads you used with the sprint kit, which were the best? Fade is really getting on my nerves...

"Best" is subjective, as it varies by each setup, particularly the chosen tire compound and power output.

What is your setup?

My personal preference is for the Project Mu 999.

I agree with his preference. Mine was tied between those and the CL RC6.
