My Firestorm arrived today, but the radio didn't
So I picked up my car today around noon at Spartan Toyota in Lansing Michigan. Service was great, got a great interest rate and payed MSRP. Oddly enough, the radio didn't arrive with the car, so I took delivery with no radio. This is ok because I had planned on putting a touchscreen system in as my first mod tomorrow, but I have no tunes until then. Also, I asked if they would discount the car by the price of the stock system but they said they couldn't. I will be getting the stock stereo as soon as it arrives.
My initial driving impressions would just be a rehash of what everybody else is saying, although on a negative note, I do find the clutch pedal to be way too light. Everything else is awesome (except for the tires). It has been raining all day, so I will take more pictures when I can. ![]()

That's pretty random (and I guess less work for you)...are items like the Bespoke stereo port or dealer installed?
Either way...Congrats! |

I believe somebody else on these forums used the dash kit from the scion tc and it worked ok. I plan on doing the same, at least until the official FR-S dash kit comes out.

Is this FT86 red different from the BRZ red?
Or is it lightning? I feel this red is darkish compared to the BRZ. I love this Colour!

They probably yanked it out to satisfy another customer with a broken unit.
Please keep us informed about your experiences with installing the aftermarket unit, very interesting! |

I'm leaning more and more towards red, from my original pick of grey or white.
The red really shows those wheel arch gaps though ... can't believe Toyota screwed that up again, all of their sports cars are the same. To drop it enough to get the gap looking nice we'll be scraping skirts all over the place. Anyway rant over and epic grats.

Something smells very fishy about this. I'm thinking someone must have stolen it already before delivery? There's no way it gets through QA without a radio.
Did they give you an explanation? |

Mine was delivered (on Tuesday) also without the radio. But, no problem, because the radio arrived just two days later (yesterday) and was installed in about ten minutes.
I don't think there's anything fishy going on. My salesman said Scions often come in without the radio, because then the customer can choose which one he wants at the time of sale. It's just that the FR-S is so new, and has its own radio, that the FR-S radios weren't yet in dealer stock at time of these early deliveries. I actually appreciated the opportunity to "learn" the car without the distraction of the radio for a couple days -- and hey, the engine makes some really good music! When I stopped in for the radio install yesterday, the dealer had a dark gray FR-S on the lot that was due to be delivered, and it too did not have a radio in the dash. So this might not be uncommon for the early FR-S deliveries. Dave Last edited by avusblue; 06-01-2012 at 09:08 AM. |

Ouch! That would stink. The first thing I did in mine is hook up my iPod, gotta have my driving music!
At least they'll get you the stereo quickly. |

All radios are dealer installed items. If all cars came with the stock radio installed at the factory, the dealers would have bunch of "open box"/ slighty used radios for all the customers that got the dealer installed nav system.

you should still get a radio because its standard with the car they just need to order you one. even if you don't want the stock head unit you can always sell it. there's plenty of toyota owners wanting the scion decks because of their factory ports and fitment.

So by the looks of the empty din space there, the radio is held in by a couple bolts on each of the two HU brackets. Does that dash panel/radio bezel pop strait out? Are there other panels that need to be removed prior to that bezel? From what i read on the HU instruction manual the stock HU has a rca sub outputs. I want to do a temp install of my old sub and amp until someone makes a nice box for our cars.

So just to clarify, you are basically saying the pass. side faux carbon panel has to come off first and then the HU bezel?
