I will have to verify but I strongly believe I down shift to 1st at much more than 4mph and I have never double clutched my car once. Not saying you shouldn't or anything I simply have never found the need too.

Slight hijack, does the gearbox chatter noise drive anyone else completely nuts? It sounds like marbles in a blender My MR2 would only chatter in 5th if I accidentally shifted up at too low of a speed, but this car chatters in all the gears, especially the low gears where you actually spend time at low rpm, and all the way up to 2000rpm :/
lol, I didn't realize anyone thought slipping the clutch when the engine is bogging was a good solution, that only buys you a little extra torque, shifting down a gear is the way to go. @Tcoat how do you skip gears when downshifting without double clutching, or do you just go one by one? My gearbox makes a "crunch" sound if I am asking the synchros to match more than 500rpm...(which happens by mistake sometimes) |

Yes, I row up and down through every single gear about 90% of the time. Not because I think it is "better" or "required" so much as it is habit. I drove trucks in the Army when I started driving and many of my cars were 3 or 4 speeds. In both those cases you needed to use every gear and skip shifting in either direction just resulted in a bad time. It only takes me 1/2 a second to shift so why not use all the gears they gave me not just half of them? The only time I will skip is on a down shift and I may go from 4th to 2nd or 3rd to 1st if not coming to a full stop. When I do skip I just leave the clutch in for a second or two and then release it slowly with just a little blip. This allows the synchros time to adjust to the right speed and position. There really is no right or wrong way (although there are horrible things you can do) to drive MT and even I change my methods up when circumstances demand it. I actually don't even think about how or when I shift so when people ask questions like this I have to go for a drive and really pay attention to what I am doing to even know how to answer.

I've feathered the clutch in 1st and 2nd gear while in traffic in every car I've ever driven and have never had issues with the clutch or drivetrain in any of them.
I don't even know how to drive an automatic

I bet there's some manufacturing tolerance involved in the lockout performance. I absolutely cannot directly downshift into first above a walking/jogging speed.

It's pretty complicated. All those paddles and different modes. Too much for me.

Tried it this morning and easy as can be at 10mph and gets progressively harder (until impossible) up to 20. Anybody listening on the streets around my house probably though I was insane or had serious engine problems. That TRD exhaust gets loud when you do that shit.

Teaching how to drive MT is something that should be restricted to in person because even videos do not provide the information in a clear manner.

On top of that "can be done" and "should be done" are two different scenarios. It would be very easy to over rev if going too fast.

It's good enough for interweb forums, though

Ha Ha Ha! True enough.
You missed it a long time ago when a "Thanks" thread was creating a pile of joke thanks being given and I had a hissy fit because it was messing with my "real" data. I take my data and testing seriously but have learned to lighten up a bit.
