Random dog-related question for those who have their BRZ

What does the latch that holds the rear seat in place look like? Specifically thing that actually holds the seat up while it is in the up position.

Basically I'm looking to see if a product like this:

Will work in the back seat since the car is too small to fit an entire dog crate in it. I know I can hook the straps on the front seat, I just want to make sure there is something in the back to hook it to as well.

I don't have a BRZ, but I have the next best thing for this question: an FR-S. I'm pretty sure this is the same in both cars.

The back seat is pretty small. In the photo of the back seat, you can see how close my passenger seat is to the back seat. Hopefully your dog isn't too big. The back seats are pretty deep too. I tried to show that in one of my photos. You may want to fill in the deep seats with towels or something under your doggy hammock.

The photo with my bike in the back shows the upper attachment. It's under the plastic cover on the rear deck lid. I also included a closeup of it.

I have always wondered this, but what do dog owners do to protect your vehicle's upholstery? Towels? Blankets?

I ask because I like cats, but Shiba Inu's have been crossing my mind left and right lately. I would love to have input from the fellas, thanks in advance.

I just vacuum a lot, and don't put them in the car with black upholstery. That's the only reason they won't be in the FR-S. My seats are already furry from the dog hair on my jeans. I can't image what would happen is one of them was in there. There black one might get to ride in it though

Thanks Brett! That is as I suspected, looks like I could loop the straps around the latch and put the seats back up on top of it. Smaller dog, only about 30 pounds, so I hope she's good to go in the back seat.

yes, as long as the person in front isn't too tall.

With a 5'8" person up front, I (5'7") fit in the back fine. I do have a short inseam though.

Basically, it's doable in a pinch and short trips. Any tall passengers, and the answer changes to no.

My wife uses a tarp-like system like the OP linked for the back of her Legacy (leather seats). She hasn't had issues with our dog, ~80 lbs., digging in the the covered portions of the seats. She does occasionally dig in to one of the door panels when trying to get her head that extra little bit out the window...

My WRX had cloth seats, so I just used towels but secured her with:

Both to keep her from being flung around during and to protect her in an accident. For the BRZ, I will probably be folding the back seats down and using towels + harness again. She's going to be bummed that there's no back windows to roll down.
